I was hoping Homelander would go down with some dignity. Taunt Butcher so that he'd get enraged enough to kill him quickly as opposed to dragging it out. Kind of like this:

Instead, he goes down begging like a little bitch. But I suppose that is appropriate for a guy who's always had power. The moment he loses it, he becomes a scared little bitch.

I mean, I guess I can see what they were going for with Homelander's death. Given how he's meant to be little more than a schoolyard bully, once he loses his powers, he ends up just as a pathetic loser.

Though the fact that the audience was cheering at his death makes me wonder if that'll be the only semi good part of the finale.

They didn't even have the decency to be even a bit original...

It's over I guess. This sure was a series of all time.

Dunno what to say, wasted potential?

Not really, the original material was never that great to begin with, but this series was just not interested in the slightest in engaging in what made the comics at least compeling.

Oh well, c'est la vie

"I'LL SUCK YO DICK MANG!"

Jesus christ Kripke, would it kill you to at least be original? Why would you make the death of your main villain goofy?

It's bad enough that you wasted all that time on the V1 bullshit just for it to go nowhere and not matter 2 episodes later.

This is probably even worse than the Game of Thrones finale. The budget is minuscule. There are several plot holes. I wouldn't be surprised if a few scene or all scenes were written by some A.I. program. Homelander goes out begging for Kripke's two favorite fetishes.

I mean I can't really say I'm surprised. I read the leaks about Homelander going out like a bitch while crying and begging out of nowhere, but I was still hoping for something a little more satisfying in a narrative sense.

Maybe have Homelander grow a tiny teeny little bit as a character before ultimately killing him for what he's done instead of having him regress into a 10 year old and shit his pants. It's just a shallow humiliation ritual with a mandatory gay blowjob joke despite this supposedly being the single most cathartic scene in the entire series.

It's no different from Homelander being hit with a de-aging beam and Butcher smothering Babylander to death with a pillow, the ending in the comic was more satisfying just from the simple fact that it was a full on slugging match and then Butcher pulled a MK fatality on him once the fight was done.

Now it's just a long, drawn out, and awkwardly filmed scene of Butcher beating up a powerless manchild while spouting one-liners and Homelander flip-flopping between literally weeping and offering to suck his cock and defaulting back to his gloating "I'M THE FUCKING HOMELANDER" ego for no reason.

I mean I guess it's cool they kept the crowbar part but literally nothing else about this brings me any fulfillment or joy. Neither of these characters went anywhere for 5 seasons and then they both just ended in a worse-written mimicry of the much better comic ending.

Damn. Watching those clips made me appreciate the ending fight with All For One from MHA all the more. At least him turning into a massive crybaby at the end made sense.

This thing with Homelander is just...pathetic. Pathetic as the end of the only reason anyone gave a damn about this show. Pathetic as Kripke shows how shit he is as a creative and will probably still get work regardless of what he has done. And pathetic because I'm sure there will be tons of Bluesky tweets, Reddit posts, and video essays about how this ending was perfect and mUh MeDiA lItErAcY since people can't admit they just like the taste of slop.

Makes you realize that as rushed or basic as the endings of Chainsaw Man, JJK, MHA, and Demon Slayer have been, they're just OK endings compared to the constant doo-doo water megacorps are 'gifting' us with.

Again, I assume the thought was that, since Homelander is basically a completely psychopathic emotionally stunted manchild, then he deserves to go out like a whiny little wimp. Basically, he doesn't deserve to die in some sort of awesome way.

I don't know if making the mentally ill child-abuse victim character regress into weeping and begging while offering sexual favors once he starts being physically hurt is the best way to finish off the story, man.

Like I understand why, from a meta perspective, you would want to humilate him. He's a stand-in for an IRL "bad guy", of course they want him to go out in the most pathetic way possible, but it's just not satisfying as an end to his character. It shows that the character hasn't grown or developed whatsoever throughout this whole fucking show.

He started out as a manchild with daddy issues drinking breast milk and went out a manchild with daddy issues crying like a baby. What was the point of anything past season 2?
