Okay. How pozz'd is this series?
One of the black characters tries to go back to his roots and wears a Pan African Flag as a uniform and designs a videogame based around the slave trade.

There is also a commercial that mocks the Pepsi commercial where some girl gives a soda to cops to stop a protest.

On both ends.

They make fun of Neocons with Homelander using Bush-era dialogue and religion to get people on his side.

They make fun of gun nuts and the alt right with Gunpowder saying that the government will confiscate their firearms and Stormfront trying to rile up a race war.

They make fun of LGBTQ virtue-signaling with the Vought corporation whoring out to the LBGTQ cause once Homelander outs Queen Maeve as a "strong, proud lesbian" when an interviewer asks why Vought doesn't support diversity.

They make fun of feminism by having Vought parade three female superheroines in their top superhero team, The Seven, with a motto that says "girls get it done" in their new movie, Dawn of the Seven.

They make fun of everyone. They view right-wing populism from the point of view of leftists, and they view woke, leftist pandering from the point of view of the right.

Honestly, I sort of like the series better than the comics. Ennis leans way too hard into his superhero hate and the characters sort of just become one note. The characters in the show are a bit more complicated and nuanced. Though the comics has Homelander being tricked into being evil rather than explicitly so.

Kamiko and Frenchy were always just annoying to me, so they're still annoying. Hughie is less annoying in this version. But one thing this fucking show needs to stop doing is breaking the team apart to bring them back together again.

So there's nothing too egregious with Leftist pandering? If it's pretty even handed, then I might check it out.

It's all ripping on transparent corporate pandering, so it's not even like they're balancing the scales by going after both "sides".
Like the guy mentioned who adopts a pan-african uniform, he does it for literal market points and the whole thing is portrayed as pathetic while both the suits and his own family tell him it's fucking stupid. Besides being a parody the pepsi protest ad is a fake-out where he acts like he's about to have principles for a second, to show how superficial his motives are. But that's just the one has-been trying to ape his company's disney tactics to get a bigger piece of the pie after he falls off; everything else in the show is being pushed by them directly.

Also the gratuitous full frontal male nudity is off the top.

I get they want to attract the female audience, but half of the male cast has been naked at one point and it's forced.

On the other side, Starlight's costume, who is supposed to be wearing a skimpy, oversexualized costume wouldn't even shock my grandma. Heck I've seen girls IRL this summer that show more skin than the supposedly 'revealing' costumes in this show.

I like the fact Hughie will become an assholes like Butcher. At least he isn't being overly dramatic now, he just wants to feel powerful and do something right.

Also fuck Frenchie and Kimiko, the whole arc of them bonding was cool and interesting in previous season but right now they are just obnoxious to watch, always complaining and bitching.

It's about as skimpy as the average comic superheroine costume in the 90s. It wouldn't offend most folks at all.

Wasn't that a plot point in the first season? iirc they gave Starlight a costume that made her look like a pornstar but she managed to preserve her dignity by keeping her old costume.

One side character I kind of like is Ashley and she's getting a lot of screen time so I have to wonder what they're going to do with her.

RE: Kimiko, I figure they might try to give her V-24 to try and resurrect her (assuming they have any left now). Though the crosshairs were on her the moment she started talking about running off to Marseille so she's probably RIP for real.

Ennis doesn’t really hate superhero themselves.

He hates how the comic book industry is dominated by the super hero genre.

A lot of British writers in the same period subscribe to same ideology

This show is frustratingly inconsistent. The last two seasons started decently and then inevitably backslide into the same nonsense to create drama. How about the characters grow just a little bit and put their differences aside to take on the supes? Nope! Rehash the same drama from the previous seasons instead of advancing the story with fresh ideas. It's almost as if someone who used to work for the CW runs this show...

I thought the first season was great, the second season was fucking awful but I kept watching because the guy who plays Homelander is just that good, he pretty much carries the entire show by himself. I haven't watched the new season and everything I read leading up to its release suggested they were going to double down on everything that made the second season bad, the writers and showrunners are all insane woke retards and there were a bunch of articles where they said this season was going to be about tOxIc mAsCuLiNiTy and other such vapid horseshit.
