I never really got what about the original comic was woke in any way whatsoever but I digress.

Especially compared to the cringe that is the show. I can't help but wonder what Garth Ennis thinks of the show, if it's subtle resentment like GRRM feels towards Season 5 and onwards of Game of Thrones.

I've heard a lot of theories online that Noir is actually one of the kids from Gen V, undercover, and that's why he's silent, again. Which is neat, except that Homelander has X-ray vision, so he can see through costumes. However, the writers often forget about Homelander's powers, so honestly, it wouldn't be surprising if that theory ends up being true.

I have seen the arguement once of "it was always woke / had gay elements" using Homelander fucking Soldier Boy as evidence, and anti woke people then getting all worked up about that. Very retarded.

Garth Ennis probably doesn't care half as much seeing as he actually finished the damn story, instead of letting some TV people do it and then pretending he will also finish it himself for fucking decades.

I liked the comics as a youngin because it was saying everything I thought about the people in charge. Homelander calling his fellow superheroes niggers because they're incompetent losers? Butcher admitting that hes just a bitter, empty man that only lives for killing supes? The archetypes they represent and what Ennis is trying to say about them is far more interesting the shows characters, even if they're flatter/less developed. In the comics Hughie and Starlight are really the only characters that matter and dont represent some larger idea, because you see the world through their eyes. In the show they're side characters, even though they were set up to be the main characters.

If you can get over the art style and gratuitous violence/sex, theres some real gems in there. Im still sad the Super Duper arc will never get adapted, but knowing Jewke and Rogen they'd figure out a way to make the literal retard super hero team a pack of evil degenerates somehow.

James Stillwell being a cold-blooded corpo who could make Homelander shit himself by sheer disapproval and indifference was probably the best thing he ever wrote. Shame he turned him into a psycho pineapple planting wackjob in the cashgrab sequel. But what can I say that hasn't already been said? Ennis coasts by grotesqueness and recognition of what he's mocking rather than the actual content of his writing. His best overall work was Punisher Max because that was just playing things straight instead of trying to take the piss out of things or show how edgy he is.

Ooof I noticed this too but at this point speaking on her appearance is like beat a dead horse. Part of me wondered if she was trying to fill her face back out from the horrifying gauntness she was left with, but honestly, I just don't care one way or another anymore.
I hope she made enough money from this shit show because the right thing to do is never let her work in anything ever again.

That'd make more sense if the first episode didn't have him killing random Starlighters to stop the upload of the plane tape.
Then again why would the writers give a fuck about making their characters morally consistent.

Also, as you said they seem to forget Homelander has half his powers since he can apparently scan entire areas looking for translucent as well as hear peoples heartbeat, but can't hear or sense the commotion that was happening just back stage?

Hughie is a curious character.

He has moments of pathetic behavior and moments of what is either shitty shock humør or Ennis' fetish (Starlights period blood got smeared all over his face after he went down on her, jfc) but then you got Hughie taking revenge on A-Train (with Butchers encouragement).

I have a soft spot for him if only because he feels like a human being in a world of very cartoonish people.

And comic Stormfront. From what I have heard here, Stormfront had more meat to her than in the comics where she's actually male and just a rather blatant Nazi Captain Marvel (Yes it's Shazam but I'm still calling him Captain Marvel) and nothing else. Granted he doesn't have a huge role either.

It was pretty obvious from the get go but Stan Edgar was meant to be the James Stilwell stand in. That way Madelyn Stilwell could be the mommy figure for broken manchild show homelander.
This may be unpopular but given both the show and the comics, the show is the better media to consume in my opinion. Sure, the show has some on the nose satire that makes modern South Park look like the second coming of Christ, but it at least takes itself and the characters seriously.

For example, absolutely no one outside Ennus’ readers knew who Homelander was until Antony Starr gave him a spotlight. Besides his superb acting, having Homelander stand out as the fucked up human weapon and not just another sanctimonious prick like in the comics, was genius.

Are you aware of the twist that happens with Homelander in the comics? "It means you turned in to a fuckin' psycopath by mistake". Because I think that makes it much deeper than him just being another sanctimonious prick. I do love the actor's performance however, he made it his own character to be sure, shame the whole show couldn't have stayed on his level.

Every season of the show has Homelander dating a mother figure. Stillwell, Doppleganger as Stillwell, Stormfront (his own actual mother), and now Firecracker giving herself a heart condition to produce breast milk. Probably within the next couple of episodes we'll get the reveal that Stormfront was his mother. And Homelander can have a giant meltdown over it.
