A rapper from Birmingham is set to face a trial after posting an allegedly "menacing" video mentioning Tommy Robinson.
Omar Abdirizak - known as Twista Cheese - pleaded not guilty to sending a grossly offensive or menacing message via a public communications network at the city's magistrates' court on Friday.
A previous charge of conveying false information was dropped.
The 30-year-old from Sparkbrook, Birmingham, was granted unconditional bail until the trial on 8 January.
Mr Abdirizak is alleged to have made the video he posted on social media between 1 and 10 August, before it was then shared by Mr Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, on X.
In court, the accused was told a police officer would be the sole witness at the forthcoming trial.

What confuses me is why do these people being put before the judge take the plea deal? Especially those being convicted of rather minor offences and/or fist time offenders? Don't take the plea deal and get a lawyer or at least try and play this out as long as you can. Their not going to give you a fair trial or hear you out in the hour or so they give you so use the system against them and drag it out by refusing the plea deal, lawyering up and showing to everyone how corrupt the government and law system is.

I'm aware cost is a factor, more so for the working class but even then you don't need to play ball with this system. Maybe someone who is more savvy in law can educate me on this one.

Another person here basically revealed that the system will be petty and spiteful with you if you try to defend yourself and that privileges and protections you might be familiar with in the US legal system aren't as strong here. Silence itself is treated as a slight against your character and if you're found guilty they'll vastly increase your punishment.

I imagine for the same reason you're asking - they don't know a rat's arse about the legal system. This way they get it over with. Light sentence, less restrictive prison, etcetera. Since the media is pro-immigrant, they have no motivation to make a show out of the trial and details might be scarce. If it weren't willingly given out, we likely still wouldn't know the name and/or age of the dude who stabbed those kills. We still don't have a mugshot.

Oh that's easy. The police threatened them with five years in the darkest, deepest hole they could find, surrounded by pakis and people who've been tragically misinformed that they're a nonce. They threatened to go after their relatives, have their families and friends' lives raked over and destroyed, their finances ruined, and have everyone they know evicted and harassed until they top themselves or the officers retire. @teriyakiburns mostly correct but that will be what their own lawyer threatened them with. The police will have watched , smiled and nodded so the recording does not confirm they threatened the suspect into pleading guilty.

Their solicitor would have told them to plead guilty as they're caught dead to rights on camera. Aside from flat out denying it's them in the video (they'll bring in face ID tech to prove it is, at the accused's expense) there's not much to be done.

The criteria for violent disorder is incredibly broad:

(1) Where 3 or more persons who are present together use or threaten unlawful violence and the conduct of them (taken together) is such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness present at the scene to fear for their personal safety, each of the persons using or threatening unlawful violence is guilty of violent disorder.

(2) It is immaterial whether the 3 or more use or threaten unlawful violence simultaneously.

(3) No person of reasonable firmness need actually be, or be likely to be, present at the scene.

(4) Violent disorder may be committed in private as well as in public places.

It's disgraceful how the charge is being abused, obviously, but these things happen all the time.
