@teriyakiburns touches on this above and I share his sentiments. If I were to organise a mass protest about an over-bearing unpopular government, I would choose bonfire night.

Not only are real explosions drown out by fireworks and real fires mistaken for organised bonfires, but the emergency services are stretched very thin that day. Not to mention, legally obtainable explosives (fireworks) can be bought in your local supermarket, without question, in any quantities you want. Obviously for showing off your wealth by blowing a hole in the sky.

Thinking (typing) out loud, I wonder if Bonfire night will be shit-canned again like it has been since COVID.

It's not a national holiday and they never 'cancel' it.

During lockdown they used the excuse of lockdown to avoid Bonfire Night. After lockdown they blamed the environment, saying burning things is bad. This year I believe the councils will use the excuse of "We have no money to do a bonfire night, even though last month we increased council tax and VAT lololololololol"

Some pubs may do small fires, but any injuries causes the pub to be sued. Pubs are on their arse financially so most won't risk it.

We've had our bonfire (night) well and truly pissed on.
