Is there any definitive evidence that the money is there? I don't know how charities and shit work, so I imagine the money is or was sitting in a bank account. But until the IRS comes around and ask questions; who actually documents where the money goes, or if it even leaves the account? Because if it's all in house accounting and they just send the paperwork to the IRS at the end of the fiscal year, there's nothing stopping anyone from draining the account and telling the IRS that most of the money is still there.

It very well may have been spent on hookers and blow, it's not like they're going to put that in the filings. Those filings aren't audited by anyone by the way. The accountant just types up whatever Quickbooks file you give them and faces no consequence if it's all bullshit.

I can think of two potential answers to this.

First, while Karl usually talks about speedrunners, he was also the guy who got people looking at the WATA Games/Heritage Auction price-gouging scam. personal example but whenever I mention Jobst, that coverage is the only thing anyone knows him for.

But this leads to my second theory: Like you said, Jobst usually covers speedrunners. Scams aren't really his thing.... which ironically means that when he does cover one, its a bigger deal. If Mutahar covered this by himself, as a guy who covers controversy routinely, it might not have gotten any attention, but the fact Karl covered it probably gave it more legitimacy in people's eyes.

Him saying that he can't find a suitable charity is really weird. I know that the Vsauce channels help raise money for the alzheimer's association from their subscription boxes. From a cursory glance they seem to be the real deal with people saying that the alzheimer's association actually helped their family members who are afflicted with alzheimer's and dementia. Their front page even says one of their main focuses is dementia research. That $600,000 would help a lot. Or is it because he can't control that it only goes to research and he doesn't want the money to go to treatment?
