I have noticed if you look at the typing patterns and the interests of users one can notice a change in the users over the last decade of Kiwifarms existence which is about to have a 10th anniversary soon. I am a new fag but I've lurked without an account since 2014 and have noticed some differences between the threads and posters.


The Original Ie Pre GamerGate days - These guys used to be the pure cristorians or the people who used to remember when Phillip delici was the original internet communist meme. these posters are truly a weird bunch. Some of them however have had their minds warped by GamerGate.

GamerGate crowd - During this time GamerGate began to take off and from late 2014 to early 2017 This crowd would contribute to a large rise in the farms. You would also see lowcows expand to DSP, Ethan Ralph, Sargon of Akkad, Jim, you would see many internet Worthy things and to top it off we would see the first wave of refugees as anti feminist/pro GamerGate/anti-sjw topics would be removed or moved to containment on social media and early forum sites like something awful and NeoGAF. You would really see political spergs on the left and right form their lowcow status as well as see the rise of animal control.

The Controversy era.

mid 2017-2019

During this time you get to see more refugee's from mainline tech sites as censorship and shadow banning force the farms to take in refugee's. many older users begin to resent the newer users as some of the anger is due to political leanings. During this time Kiwifarms would be in hot water due to Not backing down to New Zealand government, Threats of deplatforming hang over the website like a sword of damacles. One begins to see factions slowly form in the farms as famous e-celebs have infiltrated as farms users.

Crisis era 2020-current)
With renewed government efforts to crackdown on misinformation (anything counter to their narrative) You see censorship of topics ranging from covid to the 2020 us election and even the war in Ukraine. Users at this time also begin to start dividing up many threads as there have been calls by the old gaurd to remove articles and Happenings while A&H has actually been getting more traffic. Ethan Ralph and Nick Fuentes have become top tier lowcows and we witnessed Canada turn full 1984.

Despite this and due to our society and our hostile elites becoming more and more censorious at an accelerating pace, places like 4chan and the Kiwifarms more and more become the only place for certain ideas to be expressed. For example, just making truthful statements about troons is simply not allowed on 99% of web traffic today. Race relations is another topic which has been suppressed and chilled throughout the United States and Europe for decades. Jersh takes a fairly hands off approach to discussion which simply isn't allowed anywhere else.

It's true that the Kiwifarms community changes by this immigration, but it's not so much because of the policy of the Farms itself, but rather the policies of increasingly more oppressive hostile elites crushing public discussions and doing everything they can to suppress free expression of ideas.

People wanna speak their mind, and more and more people are invading any space that will give them the barest chance to do so. Jersh, for whatever reason, allows it to continue here, and I'm thankful for that.

I'll admit that while I've been aware of CWC, DSP and other top cows since their prime, I didn't stop by websites like the farms very much. I pretty much gave up on message boards and forums in the early 2010s because so many fucking kids were getting on the internet. I stuck to people I met in games and found like-minded people in other communities.

It's all fucking gone. People online are either screaming nigger and bullying people full time or have ulterior motives. Everyone else is silent.

I'm here mainly for the political space. It's been jarring, to say the least. I feel better but worse. I find good and hope in new places and have had to dismiss things I've seen good in before. It's been a blessing to talk about these subjects and not be silenced. It was the Freedom Convoy that brought me here because I could see (as could anyone with eyes) every space online making incredibly farcical lies about what was taking place. The thread here is literally the only place I could discuss what was actually happening in reality.

My join date is a few months before that but I'd have to check my post history to see what for. Probably shitposting politics.

No, you've mistaken alternate speech for free speech. Those places might be a little less ban-happy than reddit or twitter but it's a far-cry to call them bastions of free speech.

I came here because I read somewhere the farms killed that dude that made the super autistically accurate SNES emulator. Came by and read that whole email exchange between null and byuu. Learned how fucked byuu is, kept reading things here and browsing the board decided to sign up.

I was pretty much done with boards and forums. Most of the smaller forums I used died, I stopped using 4Chan when the whole exodus thing happened, went to 8Chan for a bit, stopped paying attention to internet stuff 2015-2017 or so. Missed all the gamergate shit. I still don't really have a clue what it was all about, something about some trannie and women and video game journalists or something? Started browsing 8Chan a bit again, it's now ran by a pig farmer in the Philippines instead of some cripple in a wheelchair, it's literally all Nazis and complete fucking retards, some shooting happens, site goes down. Internet seems like it's become really shitty in general. Kf reminds me of simpler internet days before the entire internet became the sanitized corporate ran shit pile it is today.

Back before companies started actively fucking with their platforms, it was common for newfag invasions to be the thing that brought them down. I think you miss a crucial factor, and that's just how people and culture change. Compare some 2013 users posts from back then to how they post today, the contrast is pretty stark to no surprise given it's been 9 years. The very same factors that influence new users to join are also impacting existing users and changing them. So someone who was an innocent old christorian might be curmudgeonly politisperg today. It's just too complex a subject to try and boil down so simplistically.

I find most communities reach critical mass when they enter six-figure user counts. We're at 82k. All the complaints from oldfags just reaffirms that the wall is real and we're approaching it. It always comes down to a couple factors that break it, though. Oldfags become so insufferably whiny about newfags, only adding to the deluge of retardation. Newfags notice this and purposefully shit up the place to make the oldfags leave. Things go a lot better when you simply be the kind of person you want to see posting here.
