The Elder Scrolls

Beyond Skyrim was always doomed. Weren't there a lot of leaks earlier of a mod discord? The team was more obsessed with putting gay rights garbage on boxes than they were making quests or designing locales.
There is a giant discord chatlog leak in the Beyond Skyrim thread, I only ever went through a bit of the Morrowind writing channel and it was bleak, but if you or someone else wants to take the plunge go ahead. There was also a lot of leaks on 4chan, I think all of Cyrodiil got leaked (what little exists), and the discord trannies threw a fit.

It's obvious as fuck that this whole team has been nothing but "writers".

I don't really expect too much from Skyrim mods because they all end up being overrated and janky anyways, but holy shit for a team that basically took control of the Nexus to stop anyone from doing any other big landmass mods they really have absolutely nothing substantial to show for it.

I love how any time you mention this they send in their furry jannies to 'correct' you. I always bring up those two landmasses whenever I can and they always throw the exact same wall of text at me about how the modder used 'stolen assets', which the modder himself said they wouldn't say what it was and he had no idea what they were talking about.

Anyone see that Skyrim: Extended Cut showcase?

Maybe I just didn't follow it enough, but it's just a glorified waifu mod? I mean, I get that it's adding more boring exposition to the game as well but it feels like this was just an excuse to add a chick to fuck.
Adding a generic waifu to fuck is priority one of almost every mod author big or small so yeah pretty much.

That's because people on consoles are physically incapable of plugging in their old game box, so they need the companies to re-release the game for full priced so that they can pay for it again. I hate Nintendrones especially for this retardation.
Agreed. I'd definitely be happy if we ever got a remake of the older games, but I can always just play the fucking originals. Sometimes it seems the folk who cry the loudest for remakes/remasters never played the OG in the first place. Or worse yet, they did play them and think they're dogshit or "dated".

Which is the player base I think Skyblivion is actually appealing to. People who got in with skyrim and found oblivion to be too goofy anesthetically/mechanically. Same for the Skywind crowd.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if it leads to more people playing the older games. But we all know that's a very small minority of people who would play these mods.

Fuck the skybabies and fuck the modders appealing to them. Oblivion has aged like milk but it's become one of the finest cheeses.

I was drawn to Skyblivion because of some of the changes they were making. I like the idea of being able to see Kvatch burning from across the map and Leyawin actually having the river flow through it and the forts being redesigned and stuff like that.

But now that I'm replaying Oblivion, I kind of see myself hating it when/if I play it for being too much like Skyrim. Oblivion has a weird charm to it that can't be reproduced in a remake.

But I could be completely wrong and am just really enjoying replaying Oblivion with mods.

Oblivion is whimsical in a way that Skyrim obviously never was and I as much as I like Morrowind, I wouldn't call it whimsical. Comfy but not whimsical.
It's fitting that the game with the painted world also looks like a painting at times. Maybe it's something to do with coming out so early in the 360's life cycle. There's something blurry about it but not in a bad way. As shit as the UI is, it looks like it came out of a storybook. I really like a lot of the icons, especially birthsigns and skills.
One of my fondest memories playing vidya as a kid was walking out of the imperial sewers and seeing vilverin for the first time.

Why haven't other devs attempted shorter, smaller scale AA elder-scroll-likes? Doesn't need to be 500 hours worth, just 40 or even 20 would be fine if its fun and priced accordingly. I just want to play something new with better combat, diverse quests, and world interaction. Is this too much to ask?

What exactly makes a game an "Elder Scrolls Like"?

Back in the Oblivion days you had stuff like Two Worlds.

Today I hear people say Isles of Adalar and Back to Ashes are similar to Skyrim but I get more of a Dark Souls vibe from them.

This has always been weird to me too. I think because an Elder Scrolls works best when it has 100+ hours of things to do. Avowed is trying to do exactly this but hearing that the world is only the size of Solstheim at best was a bummer.

Also modern day Obsidian. Might as well just be a tranny mod.

A lot of games post Skyrim think being an open world RPG is enough but The Witcher 3 and shit like it always forget that what makes an ES appealing is the ability to make and roleplay your own character in a world that accommodates pretty much anything you'd want to be.

Because it's a real pain in the fucking ass. As much shit as I'll always say about Gamebryo, it's an engine that (mostly) gets done what Bethesda needs to make their style of game.

And if you haven't, definitely try out Kingdom Come. It's the only game I've found similar.

Can't wait to play it in the year 2983

They better get Jeremy Soule back and let Kirkbride write something that doesn't just get thrown out like they did with his Nordic religion.
"No bro, like, it totally makes sense that the Nords that resent the Empire and go to war with them would almost completely take on their pantheon within 200 years."

You better hope that all the Redguards do is start using the Imperial pantheon and that they don't make Hoonding traditionally a sassy black woman with a frizzy fro in the canon. (although from what I've heard lately, Kirkbride would maybe approve of that)

Man, the more I see about how Skyblivion and Beyond Skyrim are going to shit (Although I hope Beyond skyrim pulls through), the happier I am that Tamriel Rebuilt & Project Tamriel are a thing.

Although I was pretty thrilled to learn that the people who are doing Beyond Skyrim are getting help and using some Tamriel Rebuilt Lore, so that's cool.
