Since I haven't touched them in maybe a year now, I decided to update OpenMW and everything they recommend in their
I Heart Vanilla: Director's Cut mod package. I consider the word "Vanilla" to be particularly important in that title, and I have some disappointing observations, the tl;dr being that I think the respective teams are making silly decisions.
OpenMW is dipping its toes in to fucking with core mechanics in a similar way to what the Unofficial Patches for Oblivion and Skyrim get criticized for nowadays: The biggest recent example was a change to Hit Detection which was such a clusterfuck that
an entire wall of Reddit drivel had to be typed up to explain to people how the fuck it even works. It
still caused a community melty regardless, because again, this is fucking with core mechanics that people have had 30 years to get used to. Their logic is that because Creatures/Monsters can't blend animations, making it so players can kite them easily, it's "unfair" and should be changed within the port itself instead of making less shitty and easily avoidable animations. Their logic with the change seemed to be "this was always how it was meant to be, Morrowind not being like that originally was a bug".
Tamriel Rebuilt (or one of the related projects, like Project Tamriel/Skyrim Home of the Nords/Project Cyrodiil) is also fucking with vanilla Vvardenfell content, with this example of Clagius Clanler that I'm worried is going to be a portent of more changes:

Calgius Clanler, who runs the Outfitters in Balmora, gives you what appears to be a complete timewaster of a quest, where you have to fetch him tons of clutter objects in exchange for 250g. This was an hour into a new character and I already had 2,000g by the time I even spoke to him. By itself this is just a minor "Why would they have added timewasting filler content to Vanilla?", but it does have me concerned that any or all of the TR/PT/SHotN/PC devs might just start wholesale fucking with the base game's content and retcon Morrowind into some bullshit,
instead of doing what they're supposed to by fleshing out mainland Morrowind as a province with immersive lore-accurate quests and NPCs and places.
EDIT: It seems that this is actually from an entirely
different mod that
I do not have installed, so I'm assuming this is stuff the TR/PT team decided to integrate into their own mod for some reason. I feel like random changes to Vanilla content is outside the scope supposedly vanilla-friendly mods.
I'm hoping these are just very small red flags that I'm being unreasonably paranoid about, but I guess I'll have to find out as I play through the newly updated stuff.
