Would this be a decent way to harvest stemcells without baby murder?The article leaves out the following fairly important information apart from the last sentence which doesn’t really explain it.
It’s not that hard to create an early stage embryo. What they’ve done here is use somatic (body, not sperm or egg) cells. That is a step along the way. But the thing produced will divide happily up to a set point then die. It’ll die becasue it needs to burrow into a womb to live. When the egg js fertilised in a mammal, it rolls along dicing to that point happily, but then to go further it has to dig into the womb wall, make it’s placenta from one part of itself and the embryo from the other.
Nobody so far has got anything past that stage.
