The Final Fantasy Thread

Are there mods or some other means to get the GBA bonus dungeons/content on the Pixel Remaster version on Steam? Specifically 5 and 6. Trying to find this out before I spend the money.

Imagine getting this pissed off about getting stoned...

All of the pixel remasters use Unity which makes them pretty easy to mod, so maybe some autist will add the bonus content in the future but as it stands right now, no.

CHAOS.

Also roadtrips and a story that was cut to pieces and then poorly glued back together.

Yeah, I've heard some very mixed things about FFXV; didn't really know if it would be worth it or not.

Stranger of Paradise, though; I've heard some say on this site that it's apparently pretty solid, while others... are not as kind.

Final Fantasy XV is... very awkward, yes. It has some good, some bad, and a lot of in-between. It spent a lot of time in the editing room as they tried to salvage something resembling a story from its various iterations, and it did not come out the better for it, either with story or the gameplay.

It also doesn't have any of the usual RPG mechanics, like party swapping since its just you and the same three guys, and it really feels like a prototype for the FFVII Remake in so many ways.

It didn't reach its potential but what's there is worth playing. The soundtrack is amazing. The road trip with your bros through the weeb south theme is unique and I liked it a lot. The ending made me get a little emotional in a totally acceptable, non-gay way. It's a flawed game but I'd rather flawed and unique than perfectly generic.

For anyone that’s played it, does Final Fantasy IV get better? I really like Final Fantasy VI which hooked me immediately, but IV is slow so far. I’ve heard this is one people really like too so I don’t wanna skip out on it. While I’m asking that, does V have a good plot? Don’t really care for it if it doesn’t because the old games don’t really have engaging gameplay.

FF4 starts with you as a captain reluctantly murdering innocent people and stealing crystals, being stripped of your rank for questioning orders, then betrayed by the king and hunted down along with Rydia.

It's the fastest starting game in the series, even FF6 starts with a conversation and slow cut scene first. Maybe FF2 starts a equally fast but it fizzles out faster.

Anyway, I'd say stick with it. The game does drama pretty well, in a more personal and less exaggerated way than most RPGs imo.

V is a lighthearted self-parody game. Bartz is an easy-breezy protag. The story is fun but it's nothing special. V's meat is the job system.
Was thinking about picking up Stranger of Paradise and FFXV sometime; what should I expect?
XV is a roadtrip bro simulator. The plot is pretty enjoyable to a point, where you will almost undoubtedly feel the entire narrative shit itself 80% of the way through and then coast to the ending. Combat is flashy but on autopilot.

Stranger of Paradise is an intentionally weird game. It's actually extremely cohesive narratively (especially paired with FF1), but you may not feel this way until you finish the base game. If something feels off or doesn't make sense, there is a reason for it. The combat is an action-RPG in some of the most purest sense I've seen, and you can have a lot of fun mixing jobs and abilities.

Nope.

IV is a product of shitty video game writing from the 80s- early 90s. It was revolutionary enough for the time to have character development.

V's story is underrated. The cast is indeed pretty static, but the shit happens to them and what they do is pretty gripping and took me for surprise unlike many other low effort written games.

I always get deep feels at the scene when backstory kid Lenna was going to cut out her Dragon's tongue to save her eventually dead mom. :'(:'(:'(
