The Final Fantasy Thread

People who like the nice characters are usually only in it for the vanity by association.

Think about it. If you were a selfish pos you’d adore any agreeable or expendable carebear you could easily push around.
Real men think Kuja is the best final fantasy IX character.

Always remember…

Tis but a scratch.
I swear to god, you could delete Vaan and every single one of his lines from the game, and absolutely nothing would change. You wouldn't even need to worry about conversations being confusing because he's gone. He literally adds nothing to the game except a 6th character.
Fran had more relevance in the FFXII plot than Vaan and she was a side character who barely spoke.

If Balthier, Fran, Basch, and Ashe were the only party members, the game would not be the same, but better.

The original story didn't have Vaan or Penelo; they were added because one of the guys at the top thought they needed a shonen to appeal to the younger crowd. That's why Vaan's whole character is wanting to be a Sky Pirate and following Balthier around... while Penelo's character is following Vaan around. They were literal creations because someone in the C-Level put their hand on the scale and said "You will do this." And believe it or not, Rebecca in Resident Evil was the same; she had to be younger and thus attract the younger audience. And I remember an interview somewhere, where the original creator fucking hated the character for it.

Idk how to greentext on here I do now!

When typing in the message box; at the top, starting on the left hand side, you have different icons for different things. The first one is an eraser > Bold > Italics > Text Size > Color.

>Be me
>An abrasive asshole, but also enjoy helping people

To be fair, Matsuno is complete ass at character development. He's really good at creating set pieces but he just kinda forces characters into it.

FF13 is a good game. Great aesthetics, a fine soundtrack, spectacular combat that is also mechanically engaging, likeable characters, and a story that doesn't outstay its welcome. It is disappointing as a Final Fantasy branded game, since that comes with the connotations of exploration and more traditional fantasy aesthetics, not futuristic sci fi aesthetics.

I have never seen a source for the "the mature and adult Basch was really supposed to be the main character and that annoying kid Vaan was shoehorned in because of the execs!" rumor. That game had great aesthetics and fantastic dialogue and voice acting and well directed cutscenes, but the actual gameplay was very boring. It had none of the camera angles or spectacle of the other FF games. It was boring MMO combat but without the socialization. The game is also atrociously paced, being 50 hours with very long stretches of running through dungeon after dungeon without breaks, and the combat just isn't fun enough to keep it fun. The main party was also rather dry and not very likeable compared to other FF casts. I wish I adventuring with fun people like Al Cid or Dr. Cid or Larsa or Reddas, not these guys. The music was a little too bombastic and noisy.

Dude, you don't have to lie so hard.

No, the best thing from Final Fantasy XIII was Spoony's review of it, which is one of the last good things he ever did.

The fact that anyone can honestly say they enjoyed Star Wars, but FF, or Toriyama's waifu quest. There is just nothing remotely enjoyable about either of those games with the exception of Fang, who would've made a much better main character, and is way more appealing to boot.
Edit: The extra space isn't me, tried to fix it. Site is having a conniption again.

In my defense, I was tired and had some issues with the OST list.

Thread tax:

As a completionautist, my biggest gripe with XIII was grinding for items to upgrade equipment, especially for the ultimate weapons and a few of the best accessories. It got to the point where I was delusional, thinking that the game code was out to get me. "Oh, you've killed a dozen adamantoise in a row and not a single one has dropped a platinum ingot? Well, you can always sell the trapezohedrons clogging up your inventory." How in the pachinko-machine-fuck do I get a 1% drop every third kill and a 25% drop every 12th!? In the end, it really wasn't worth it because the superbosses, and endgame content in general, were underwhelming.

So the Pixel Remasters have been released and only FFI and FFIII use Spell Slots.

I looked up some videos on playthroughs of FF I since I barely remember playing FF III on DS but I always had issues with Spell Slots as I had to save up spells for a boss battle or for a very troubling encounter and I am sure others feel this way. Add that with MP healing items are non-existent(like with Final Fantasy for the NES) or way too rare and expensive(like with FFII and III). While I do love how you can play with the old Spell Slots,I do kinda like MP better overall. What do you guys think?

I do it for two reasons. First, I like to experience as much of what a game has to offer as I can, good or bad. Second, and more importantly, my masochistic experiences with the shitty games allows me to enjoy and appreciate the great ones even more.

Definitely agree up to here. XIII's gameplay is what kept me going to the end because I love how the Paradigm system feels and flows. My only real complaints about XIII's gameplay are that the Crystarium sucks, I cannot stand that long Paradigm change that happens the first time you do it every fight, and if you're going to have characters' positions on the field impact gameplay, for the love of god, let me control them directly. Vivid memories of fighting Barthandalus as a kid, watching Lightning as my last standing party member walk mindlessly straight into his big beam attack and dying.

No, I disagree.
