Well worth £15, anybody here who did get the game have you had any problems so far graphically?

This makes me mad. even though I had already decided I didn't need to buy this shit...
Cid (the pixelated Robin Williams-looking motherfucker in the middle of your first image) is literally "baked" (i.e. statically printed into the background, as opposed to being a different polygonal model like the other 2 characters are), and he always has been in that screen... Only it looks substantially worse because Squenix "improved" the 3d character models, but for some reason still left all of the backgrounds looking like shit. This is a major problem really, what were they thinking?

I couldn't even tell you what the issue with the world map towns (in your second image) are, but that's just awful... The previous steam version also looked bad, but it was still at least competent.

Final Fantasy VIII is my favorite game in the series, although it does sometimes share that distinction with other titles.

I know it's never gonna happen, but I would appreciate a Crisis Core type prequel to VIII starring Laguna, Kiros and Ward. Laguna is a far more likable character than his son and his friends are more interesting as well. He also has a compelling story that we only ever get a glimpse at in the main game, and one of the most badass battle themes in the series history:

As for the so-called "remaster" I don't see any reason to buy it. It's already possible to make FFVIII look way better than that pitiful effort Squenix sharted out if you are so inclined... Has been for years.

I liked the Laguna Segments over the main parts in the game. I dunno, I find him more interesting to play as and as a character than Squall.

I'm having a time playing FFVIII after a bong hit. This one kind of faded from memory so it's cool revisiting shit. Rinoa is forgettable, cool battle system.

The eidos port was fucking terrible, even worse than the ff7 pc port. i'm very glad i didn't buy it.

@Megaroad it's a real relaxing game and the battles aren't too complicated if you're wonked out to hell

Some Second Life furry put on a grand crusade because they "censored" a siren. Even if you disregard that her cooch was covered up, it's just a straight up better model. It doesn't have that "uh, why is she naked" 90s anime vibe. At least armor bikinis you can rationalize, but this is just a C-string on a beast woman.

Oh okay, a one-off sperging. Nope. Go to the last few pages of 35 and you get a fucking novel from kids who clearly never grew up as to why this is a cardinal sin.

That's one page mind you.

I bought it, played 5 mins, refunded it. I just don't have the energy for those kind of ancient games anymore. I'm more excited for the Crystal Chronicles remaster:

JFC.

Did the censorship only hit on the Sony version or was this for all versions?

I played the PC version of FF7 and the Midi music was terrible and unbearable to listen to.. Plus it was porn to crashing in some places.

i was amazed at how bad the MIDIs and overall sound were for the ff7/ff8 PC ports. uematsu was very careful and specific about how he made the MIDIs to make sure they played cleanly with no load-lag in the games on psx but there was no care taken to preserve the songs when they ported it over. absolute garbage.

There was nothing wrong with the original design, and I have doubts the changes were done for purely "aesthetic reasons".

That said, the port is such a complete trash fire in everything that I dont think it's really worth to get your mind worked up about that censorship any longer.

I'm still on the fence about getting it because I feel that the moment that I do Square will announce a physical collection featuring 7, 8, and 9. Like 10 had two HD remasters, one with just the character models and then a little bit later one with everything redone from the ground up. If they redid the initial character models there's bound to be some complete edition coming at a later date.

Brute forcing through 8 and breaking the game with being so overpowered was fun

I still find that the interaction between triple triad, carding monsters in bottle, and the character progression system makes it one of the most interesting minigames i've ever seen in a video game. finding a way to turn a minigame into something that can enable you to get stupid OP early on and tear through the entire mid-late game because you autistically won some card games is awesome.

I just remember beating all the phases of the final boss in 3 turns because there's a way to trigger Squall's limit break every turn by weakening Zell and each turn caused 10 trillion damage.

the ultimecia fight is one of the worst final bosses in any FF i've played, if you're doing a normie run it literally takes hours no matter how you've prepped. while i appreciate FF8's ability to break the system and get godlike powers early on, i always felt it was unbalanced to jump up the level of bullshit required to get past bossfights from the easy shit even through her castle up to the nonsense of a long, boring and finicky fight.

That's my main complain about FFVIII, you shouldn't have to rely on outside sources to figure out how the core mechanics of the game work. Even if you do, if you don't break the game properly shit can go wrong real easy.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I fucking loath Triple Triad. Always have. I hate real life card games in general, and while I can appreciate how in depth the game can be in FF8, I hate the whole side quest involved because it's just tedious bullshit. And I hate that you basically have to do it if you want to get the stupidly overpowered shit early on.

It doesn't help that the sidequest involved has some of the most obscure steps ever without a walkthrough. Good fucking luck tailing the Queen of Cards, which basically requires you to trek absurdly long distances on the world map.

i never bothered doing the queen of cards quest, it's too much of a hassle even with a guide; I can only reset and try again so many times before I smash my controller to bits.

You don't need a guide or anything too obscure to benefit from TT's early game benefits, you just need to explore the card game thoroughly by challenging people and trying a few games. Your starting GF quetzecotl learns Card and Card-F which open up a ton of options- for example, carding t-rexes in the garden and refining the t-bone gets you access to quake very early; you junction that to STR and you're OP through disc 2, especially if you can manage to keep your levels relatively low.

I knew about the abilities but I didn't know about the T-Rex trick.

I think I just don't have the patience to experiment with that sort of thing which is why I never tried. That said, I am now extremely curious about what else I can break now that I know that.
