The Final Fantasy Thread

Alright. I'm rather tired of this trend where people argue with intuitively obvious information. It just so happens I found an excerpt from a dev interview with Toriyama (one of the senior developers of both OG FF7 and the Remake). I believe it was published in the first ultimania they put out and it concerns Aerith's resolution scene.

I hope it can assist @Gravemind and especially @The Demon Pimp of Razgriz I'll also pick out the Nojima one if I run across it.

I think you just really want your confirmation bias.

Yeah. I’m the one doing that. Not the two people who contradict one another and didn’t even know about these quotes. It is me, not you, in a cycle of kneejerk disagreement.

Correct. I'm glad you agree. Also calm down, you sped.

Anyway, as unlikely as it will be, I really hope SE considers repackaging Opera Omnia into an offline version. It seemed like it had a neat story.

Ok I have a bone to pick with this stupid fucking game (FF7R), and it's something I've had beef with for a long time when it comes to JRPGs

I'm fighting the last boss in the Train Graveyard I scan the guy. Turns out, this fucker has a weapon for Aerith that you have to steal. Steal has been the single most worthless materia in the entire game, and NOW you decide to make it important? Go fuck yourselves. Also doesn't help that this game has more materia than I have reasons to live. I don't know what the fuck to do with all of it.

JRPGs always seem designed in a way that they already expect you to know what you need to before you even get there. I always expect it was to sell strategy guides back in the day but now that shit is uncalled for.

'Steal' is suppose to be one of those things where if you have it, great, you can potentially pick up some useful items. If not, eh don't sweat it too much, a better item or the exact item will come along soon enough. Stealing really is only necessary if you're one of those people who either have a specific goal in mind like doing challenge run or are trying to get 100% items.

Though personally, I'm the opposite. If a 'steal' command or equivalent is in the game then that ability or the party member that has it almost becomes mandatory for every fight. I'll steal from everything so not to miss anything.

It can be useful as a source of items. Tifa is the best bet there since she's got the highest Luck.

Oh my, Square has thrown "interpretation" to the wind and signified that the new Theme Song is indeed just about Cloud and Aerith's feelings for one another.
This was found on their Japanese site, with a new scene of Cloud and Aerith being close as the selected background.

I tracked down the URL for anyone to verify if they wish.

And the woman who sings the song was asked for her comment and she said...

And lastly some plebbitors matched the lyrics to the Remake theme song "Hollow" (which was Cloud's pov)

Looks like case closed to me. Now you'll be saying I worked too hard or something here. But it's not my fault you're so arrogant this became worth doing.

I'm not sure exactly what's going on here, but IIRC the early part of OG FF7 did play up the "relationship" between Cloud and Aeris. That was kind of a major part of half the first disc and second. How is that throwing interpretation to the wind? It was even outright implied they had a relationship of some sorts in the US commercial.

I haven't played any of the numbered games after VI. I may have missed a lot.

(also that Crystal Chronicles GameCube game is OK)

Because I’ve been arguing with people in this thread who deny this? And others have cosigned their nonsense? And I can post actual developer insights but get nowhere?

It’s just very tedious. Nobody says “everyone knows” to them either.

Wonder how this will work if the player decides to have more affection points with Tifa instead (honestly always preferred her with Cloud tbh).

Course, this could be all just to try to increase the impact of Aerith’s death.

I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

The whole argument started because I said exactly this. But when you say it it’s not controversial. People prefer to disagree with me I guess, even when I say 1+1=2. What retards. Absolutely pathetic.

Or it’s because you said it in a way favorable to Tifa. And they’re pretending to have a more serious point, like @Michael Wade saying “well that scene is optional” as if that would only affect Aerith here. What absolute gooners.

It will probably be handled like the OG where Aerith’s date is mechanically favored and has more story content.

Is Aerith dying really going to have any sort of impact anymore? Back then you lost an important, beloved member of the team, a possible love interest that you can't get back. It's an iconic scene.

Nowadays it really doesnt matter. Aerith died? She'll be back in some spinoff. Anytime FF7 is represented in any other game or gacha she'll be there like nothing happened. It's like an actor's character dying in a movie as opposed to an actual character dying in their world.

People already expect her to die, bigger shocker would be to actually let her live imo

Now I am done with FF XVI (I have not bought the DLC yet) and damn, what a good game.
Final thoughts on the game:
  1. Clive is a great protagainst and Ben Starr is an excellent VA. He is a rounded proganist and I like that at times, he shows zero mercy for his enemies. He start the game very moody and he grows.
  2. The combat is very fun and I love the EKION system. It give variations to the combat and let you experiment with how you want to play. Downside is that it get sammy after a while and if you are not a fan of hack and slash, you will not like it.
  3. Unlike FFXV (which I like) I never got a feeling that huge parts of the story was missing. The story was at times, very Game of thronesish (back when that show was good) but at its core, it was still FF.
  4. The supporting cast was very good. Dion, Byron, Jill and Joshua were MVP togheter with Torgal.
  5. Great boss fights. The boss battles felt epic.
  6. Ultima was not a compelling villan, even if his final boss fight was KINO. I enjoyed when Clive punched him in his stupid fucking face. Barnabas was a cooler villian and I wish he was the main one.
  7. Great worldbuilding. It felt like a living world.
  8. Good music and it looks so damn good.
  9. Jill best girl overall.
