The Final Fantasy Thread

I hated 12 when it came out but remember 0 about it or why. I bought the newer version on switch when it came out but my brother (who loves 12) told me something was fundamentally different about the remaster or remake or whatever the fuck it was and I've never opened it. is it better or worse? I have a a ps2 with an 8tb hard drive in it and every game so I still have access to the original. If I wanted to go back to and actually play through FF12, should I play the Zodiac version or the OG?

I disagree.
FFXII's combat, I can only relate to like... Idk a bioware game? Lol but way more in depth.
But it's built into the game progression, so at the beginning there's very little to program, but end game you can do all kinds of stuff.
It kind of works like that programming language Scratch, with the little blocks.

FFXIII on the other hand, I would compare to something like that new Aliens game, where you're in control of the squad, not the individual unit.
FFXIII has the same kind of philosophy, where you're reacting to enemy on a larger scale than giving commands on per action basis, but it's more about "gamefeel" than anything else and keeping things fast-paced.

IMO
XII is more about what neat stuff you can do, there's a lot of room for creativity.
XIII is more about just providing a fun feeling combat system.
I guess I agree, XIII is style over substance. It does look pretty cool. Ideally they'd take X-2 and make it as dynamic looking/feeling as XIII. Fast, energetic, still tactical and still turn-based.

I can't remember what the differences even were, but I know I got significantly further in it on PS2 than Switch, and liked it more (still dropped it, but yeah).

Most people agree the remaster is better, so try that. For me it's probably just that my standards have changed, and I don't have patience tedious things anymore.

So I beat 7R and the Yuffie thing. It was fun. I like her and Aerith.

But like.......is the next game going to be all......how to put it like future tech world and poor people land? Or is it going to open up more like thus the fantasy aspect? I heard we dont get to see Wutai this time.....

Well Zodiac has a 4x speedup button that makes walking from place to place much less tedious. It's worth it for that alone.

Downside of Zodiac is that they nerfed all the story bosses and they didn't really need to be.
When I played ffxii, and I played the zodiac version, I only leveled up three of my characters. Vaan, Basch, and Ashe. I didn’t realize that you’re supposed to level up all 6 characters, so I had three shitty reserves. Somehow I still beat Vayne on my first try.

So yeah, that says something about how piss easy the game is.

this seems shitty, a speedup option sounds awesome but I don't necessarily want my first full playthrough of the game to be so fuckin' easy. expanded job system sounds cool, but if the story is easy as fuck I doubt that'll matter much to me.

There's definitely going to be more fantasy. I dont know if you played the original, but there's going to be a lot of mystical and ancient civilization stuff going forward. The whole eco terrorism plotline gets ditched in favor of a more epic adventure.

The game is going to be big enough that I dont see missing Wutai as a problem, it's literally the only other major continent you go to far as I remember. The preview's of all the stuff they added in the remake look amazing though. They added a lot more world building with all the cultures that came before and were crushed by shinra.

I'm trying to finish FF7R because I just stopped at some point and I can see why. Its an alright game but there are so many frustrating design decisions. The forced walking sections, in battle cutscenes that you can't skip, in game scenes that you can't skip or speed through, and I just did Hell House which embodied all of it. Specific to Hell House is the in battle cutscenes that negate any progress on the stagger gauge and having an obnoxious barrier that you just have to wait through. I understand they want it to be a more cinematic experience but holy fuck it just comes across as tedious and really drags things down. I'm gonna finish it but its unbelievable to me that they thought this was enjoyable.

You can tell they put everything into making sure the Look and the story were correct before the gameplay.
In a lot of ways Id liken it to a metal gear game.

I think they learned their lessons with rebirth. Cloud has a lot more ways to swing his sword and the environment is actually explorable this time around.

Alright sorry for double posting but a demo for rebirth is supposed to be coming tomorrow along with a state of play.
