The Final Fantasy Thread

Nomura outright saying he's kinda worried about how people will react to the ending has me extremely excited. I admire the humble balls he has to openly say something like that. This is the man who invented the aerith death scene

Also extremely based how they didn't change the story based on player feedback. This is their vision, they're already got the story mapped out for game 3. Mad hype.

Cid is my favorite character and they better not fuck him up. Just sit your ass down in that chair and drink your goddamn TEA!
I am concerned about that a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets toned down.

They've basically confirmed in the interviews that history has already been changed for the remake ff7 with wutai. It's no longer a washed out joke nation and something happened that put them on par with shinra again. I also noticed they cut out the rocket from the screen shot recreation of his original 1997 look. They may sidestep the issue by changing events.

Okay so I need to be an unethical poorfag.

Nobody I know owns a PS5 (no games lol), and I have no interest in owning one myself. What store chain has the best return policy for a console so I can just buy one and then return it?

Walmart - 15 days
Best Buy - 15 days
Game Stop - Get fucked
Target - 30 days for unopened but may deny return for opened items
Sam's Club- 90 days but you need to pay for shipping. No local pickup

Not really sure. Then again, I haven’t used one of those to buy a console in forever.

Currently, I’m hearing mixed feelings on the current demo. It has amazing visuals aside from a few uneven textures, and the combat is still enjoyable, but some have expressed grievances with the game’s prolonged wall shimmying and vault turning, along with the whole Sephiroth scene also involving quick-time events.

That said, those who have been granted early-access to later sections when it opens up said that what they played was really good. Given that the demo will be updated for that on the 21st, we’ll see what happens.

I liked FF7 remake specially the bosses on hard, I can understand why some people didn't like it, some of the bosses needs you to know what you should do or else it becomes a slog like Hell House where you have to exploit its weakness. I guess people wanted it to be faster, but you need to be in a certain mood to enjoy it. It is just weird and I like it.

Costco might do eternal returns for game consoles. I don't know for sure. If you're a member there, you should ask.

What's with people not thinking their sexuality is valid unless they claim every fictional video game character as gay?

"omg guys, I have written a fan theory that the Highwind is actually an allegory for being trans"

I watched some of the demo playthrough where Sephiroth burns down Nimbelheim.

Maybe I'm jaded but the scene where he walks through the flames seems more impactful and creepy on the PS1 version than this new version. Maybe it was the music or something.

You're not jaded, the visuals in the original FF7 were awesome. Let's not forget that the cutscenes were a big factor in how huge it got.

I am curious about what they want to do with the story now. I always enjoyed Squaresoft's storytelling, but Enix has always seemed more bland. I started losing interest in the franchise once they merged.

What I did was sold a bunch of shitty games and old consoles then I went down to a local mom and pop/ flea market store and bought a PS5 for a couple hundred less. Granted this was before Inflation bit everyone in the ass but it should still be viable

Something that I wasn't a big fan of the remake was how they took small things from the original and stretched them out into a longer section. Something small that might of took five minutes in the original gets stretched out into a thirty minute part. Like the railway ghost yard. That didn't need to be turned into something that big.

But it might be different for a teenager now who's playing the remake as their first FF7 game without the original as a reference.

Just finished the demo and this is pretty close to how I felt. Combat seems a bit more polished, but with only two preset party members and equipment it feels a little constrained for now. I like how both Cloud and Sephiroth have really different personalities in the flashback - Cloud is upbeat, impatient, and cocky, and Sephiroth is just a normal guy and actually interested in mentoring Cloud, so much so that Barrett even brings up how decent of a guy he seems to be. As for Nibelheim, I hate QTE stuff in what really should be cutscenes and just spent the whole time wondering when we were going to get the big iconic Sephiroth shot. Compare to the cutscene earlier with Sephiroth working through the basement library, which I thought was really effective.

I don't have enough old shit to have any value. Only thing I want to get rid of is a limited edition switch. Besides I don't want to keep the system. I just want to play this before I get spoiled.

No it’s definitely more creepy in the original. I also don’t like how rebirth makes those chosen by the planet too bombastic. The original was creepy with the bells and the heartbeat, and it never increased in intensity. That being said rebirth has a better version of that song than remake which had shitty creepy crawly sound effects, but it doesn’t fit the tone.

Okay, ignoring the fact that they completely missed/disregarded the context of the entire situation, can the trope "enemies-to-lovers" just fucking die? Because it's so fucking gross, and cringey, and not even applicable to what's happening here.
Is it common? I can't even think of any games which feature it.

It's not actually common in media, but rabid shippers love it which is why they try to turn every instance like this one into it.

It's that along with the fact that 1) the remake gave him this gay little sashay whenever he walks, 2) made him give this small, almost playful smile when he's about to walk into them, and 3) got rid of the scary, menacing, eerily glowing, death glare the previous incarnations had, and toned down the one cool, and creepy thing the last part actually expanded upon, his cold, dead, blank, crazy lizard-eyes

And no, it's not a result of the lighting because the previous part proves otherwise.

I just started World of FF Maxima and I can already tell that TOSE put more love and care into its development than squenix has given to main line titles since 10.

I see, shippers really are too horny.

That game is incredibly good, surprisingly. It's underrated and overlooked. I hope we get a sequel at some point.
