The Final Fantasy Thread

there was also a "HD" version for the phone and PC
You know what I dislike about those "HD" versions of V and VI on Steam? Square already had an excellent HD artstyle with the PSP remakes of I, II, and IV. Those games were fucking gorgeous and they could have just applied the same coat of paint to V and VI. But they didn't, and instead we get these inferior looking versions for those two.

FFXIV is not a "light good, dark bad" story because of Shadowbringers. If anything Shadowbringers tanked that assumption that we had since ARR, the majority of Shadowbringer's initial plot is focused on bringing back the darkness aka the "dark" because the light can be just as destructive when it is when the dominant force. I mean everyone in Shadowbringers basically praises the darkness simply because they miss the night sky that the light took away.

Around late Heavensward we get flatly told that the first Shard/alternate world was completely ruined by bringing the light to too much power because darkness was completely destroyed which is what Shadowbringers aimed to correct and return balance to that world. I mean if you think the whole balance of light and dark, which isn't exactly the freshest concept either, is overplayed fair enough. I just don't think this is a purely "light good, dark bad" story as of right now.

Additionally, it's worth noting that the land in Shadowbringers isn't just randomly overrun with light, the Warriors of Light (player characters) from that land (Ardbert Boxart and company) completely won their war, so Good Guys literally caused the problem.

Been fucking around in XIV the last few days. Played during the launch of the OG version, and made it to end game but not much further shortly after ARR launch. I ended up just starting a new account because I couldn't figure out what the fuck my login info was and the complete collection was on sale over the weekend for $30 or whatever.

The XP buff is pretty insane. You outlevel the story content very, very quickly. I guess I'm okay with that, but still. It's especially crazy for gathering jobs. I think I hit MIN 30 by the time I was finished with the third guild quest.

Also, what's the deal with like, a quarter of the server having the New Adventurer tag? Are those legit new players or does everyone run alts?

Alts aren't super common unless you rp, like having alts to access different data centers (3 exist in NA), or you raid which those alts likely already are at endgame anyway. Those are the most common reasons to run alts due to you having access to all classes on one account and the MSQ requirements discouraging making alts unless you really want to just play the game all over again.

I'd assume you joined a server that is trying to encourage new players to show up with bonuses, like your exp bonus, and the new player tag exists for people who have not finished Stormblood's entire MSQ and have not played at least 168 hours. So the new player mark actually requires a very large investment of time to not be considered "new" anymore.

Alts are very uncommon in FFXIV, only for really hardcore raiders and RP'ers - the amount of "new player" tags you're seeing are likely legit, Shadowbringers (and Stormblood) have been very successful expansions during a time where WoW (and Battle for Azeroth) have been struggling. You no longer even need an alt for redoing the Main Story Quest, as they're working in a "New Game+" mode.

It also depends on the server, some servers were added for Shadowbringers and they moved/balanced several other servers and offered free transfers to a number of them. If you have the "Road to 60" buff, it means you're on a server that targeted new players specifically and gives a huge stacking XP buff on top of all other XP buffs, for any class/job until 60 - that's a new player/preferred server perk.

This speedrunning with vets in dungeons while I'm trying to figure out what the fuck is going on is killing me.

What role are you playing and what level are you? You might just be confused because around the 30s and 40s range you get some slightly quirky dungeons that can seem overwhelming if players are smashing through enemies super fast giving you time barely to understand what the fight was doing.

26 PUG, was doing Sastasha for the main storyline quest. I'm being a little hyperbolic because I have a vague remembrance of most of the dungeons from the base game, but the tank was pulling like three mobs at a time and we were done in 8 minutes flat.

Honestly this is good for you when you get used to it, because PUG/MNK likes to go as few packs as possible to maintain greased lightning uptime in combat. Trust me you'll hate really slow one pack at a time tanks overtime the more you play dps because dps, especially melee dps, are designed to keep attacking constantly so downtime between pulls never feels good. Embrace the speed and punch as fast as you can.

I really wouldn't worry about speedrunning lowbie dungeons unless you're there for the story. The dungeons themselves are usually just single path corridors that seem complex because you'll have to pick up a key or unlock a door along the way. Bosses also have fairly simple mechanics (don't stand in front of the boss, move out of AOEs, etc.).

Also keep in mind that you will run early dungeons like Sastasha CONSTANTLY because those are the dungeons everybody has unlocked.

An update on the FF7 remake:

The Digital Deluxe Edition contains a digital art book, a digital mini-soundtrack CD, and a DLC Materia for Carbuncle and Cactuar. The 1st Class Edition includes all the content from the Deluxe Edition, a DLC Materia for Carbuncle, as well as a Play Arts Kai figure named "Cloud Strife and Hardy Daytona." People who pre-order the game will receive a DLC Materia for Chocobo Chick. Digital pre-orders will also include a theme for the PS4 menu.

It's ok, I won't buy the ff7 remake until it's complete and on the steam sale.

Also FF14 is a blast so far, red mage is my favorite class, Dungeons get better when you hit level 50, The ARR dungeons suffer from "first-gamism" when the game is trying to discover what it wants to be.

Given how smoothly this development is going, I’m sure the concluding installment will be a launch title for the PS7, which is fitting, I suppose.

You can ask them to slow down if you're in the process of figuring it out. There's only one Dungeon in ARR that has story-related notes Tamtara Hard Mode and what you could do is finish the dungeon and teleport back to the entrance.

All you need to worry about as a PUG going into MNK is do your aoe combo when they have they're pulling that many mobs. Later on you'll get rockbreaker which gives you a GL stack for your ending aoe combo and you just spam that combo like a mofo till the mobs are dead. You'll pick up the rest as you but as a DPS always try to AOE if there's 3 or more mobs.

Intro to the demo, and most likely the full game. Really don't like how much shit they're shoving into this. They're never gonna finish this.
