It is FF's long time composer's birthday

I know a couple of pages ago there was discussion about FF9 and I played not too long ago and really enjoyed it (Its top 3 for the games in the franchise I played). I liked all the nodes to previous games, and I liked the world of Gaia. Furthermore, I liked the simple story and those little character interactions with the cast. Problems I had with was the gameplay is really slow, I wish the trance wasn't automatic and the characters aside from the first four you meet (Zidane, Dagger, Steiner and Vivi) really don't do much, and I thought the villains of both Kuja and Garland were weak. It reminded me a lot of the classic Disney movies (I though Garnets theme literal sounds like something you will hear from a Disney movie)

Beatrix is cool.
Even got involved with Sir Steiner later in the game.

It’s been ages since I’ve given 9 any real thought. It’s one of those cult sequels that diehards insist is better than the rest of the series.

I dropped it somewhere in the Lodestone Cavern; got lost, realized that by the time I found the exit, I’d be so over-leveled the game would play itself. The minigames were a slog, sprawled across entire towns with all the elegance of a traffic jam. The side characters were worse—Quina felt like a gag that outstayed its welcome. Kuja was a forgettable and they should’ve introduced Garland sooner or made him the main threat. But I didn’t get far enough for it to matter. I was halfway in and he was still waiting for his cue.

I think there was an interview back then with a squeenix exec or game director that they always final fantasy aimed for teens. which is fine, but most of the FF7 fans that have played it back then and looking forward for the remake are adults now. they shouldn't be restrained to keep it for only teens or like explore the dark stuff in the original FF7 that just glanced over.

I think its the overall thing to blame here is the moralwashing or like making the protagonists always have a squeaky clean image. they must be always paragon of virtue and have a spotless moral. like shonen jump back then have heroes that are willing to kill like Kenshiro and Jojo, now shonen jump makes their heroes not kill their enemies, resulting in talk no jutsu memes
This completely ignores FF16 though.

I'm playing Rebirth on Steam via my ROG Ally and is anyone actually decent at this Queen's Blood card game....I'm a completionist and can't move on until I beat this mf in Kalm. I might be retarded.

Like Michael Wade said, it's mostly a matter of strategy and using the right cards/buying new decks. Each time I struggled with someone I swapped some cards around and that usually did it.

My main tactic was to focus on board control, in early games placing my cards to block and takeover slots, and then later on as destruction and replacement cards appear moving to those, both to buff my own cards as well as clear out enemy cards to place my own. I wound up with a few games where the enemy was forced to pack it in with control of only 1/3 of the board in some cases.

Unrelated to other posts above me but I’m loving FF16 so far.

The story is honestly pretty meh.

The action on the other hand is incredible. Every boss fight is a treat just because they adhere so much to the rule of cool.

It also helps that the combat is very fluid and controls really well. My one complaint with it though is that imo there’s little reason not to use the Phoenix Eikon most of the time.

Clive rules as a protagonist too.

Yeah that definitely helps too.

I don't remember when the cards become available or most of their names but a sacrifice deck can carry you through most of the game, Mindflayer x2, Midgar Zolem, King Tonberry, The Mushrooms that spawn another card when they die x2, the Mandragora that spawns another card when you place them x2, and the frogs that give you a buff on the right and above when they die x2 are the main cards you want for it. I don't remember the other cards I used but they were ones that would destroy enemy cards for the most part or depower them heavily, only ones I know for sure are the Malboro and Cockatrice.

Just play Mindflayer and Tonberry in the center then on the top and bottom row do the mandragoras, mushrooms and frogs. If you can build up enough pegs early on play the Midgar on the top or bottom row and power it up with the frogs and other sacrifices. You can manage okay control of the top and bottom row of the board but you need to pay attention to the center for placing the Tonberry and not resetting the pegs above and below if you're going for a 3 peg card.
