The Final Fantasy Thread

Makes me so glad that I got into The Legends of Heroes series. More "anime" than FF but far more satisfying if you pay attention to world building and character development.

I never finished the first Cold Steel game. How the fuck do you make a game built around a group like SeeD be boring and predictable. (Also incest shit.)

I don't follow. How does her intervening in Cloud's life hurt him irreparably? Why would Cloud have been smashed in Sector 7? Are you saying he wanted to live just to save Aeris afterwards? As for the other thing regarding him not rejoining Avalanche...are you referring to Aeris just "changing" him a bit from the awkward and distant self he is at the beginning? I'm not sure I would give her all the credit for that, but she does do the most of any character (especially in the original) to pretty much chip away at his cold exterior.

Yeah, I wanted to make a similar point about this but didn't know how to put it. I would further add that that make it seem she wants to enjoy life as much as possible and also wants to be with others. I liked her a lot in the remake (well besides her seeming to know the plot pretty much). It's jarring yet satisfying to see a sweet feminine character with a serene inner strength as opposed to all the boring "bad ass"/domineering women characters we've been overwhelmed with for so long.
If not for Aeris he would have probably not found out about the plan to collapse the pillar and either been a victim or not stopped it, and then would leave. He would never have attacked Shinra's base either, which is how he knew Sephiroth was back. And it's just been a thing that Aeris was a catalyst for a lot of his character development as you say.
The irreparable damage is, since she clearly knows she will die and that he will grow to love her, that he'll be haunted for a long ass time about it. As well as the grief he'll experience right away. But she knows she has to play along for the greater good. That's all.

Yeah Barret was interesting in the original in that the game initially leaves it ambiguous (and indeed Barret himself says at one point he doesn't know) whether he's really doing this to save the planet or just to get revenge on the company that burned his home town. In either case, he never stops to consider civilian casualties even once.
The Dyne confrontation will have no weight because it will be less true that Barrett is just slightly more fortunate than Dyne, and not actually a better man. It's what I hate about the changes this franchise has made. It takes complicated and challenging stuff and repackages it to be safer and palatable.

Barrett was a terrorist through and through; it made him a lot more interesting than just 'angry black man'. Regardless of his motivations, his intent to commit violence against Shinra was unerring. It's a shame to see that weakened in this game, but maybe that's a little too edgy for Square in HD.

1) How do you figure this is a sequel? Just..how?
Because the ending to this shit show is going to be "Go through time and space to fix everything so that Shinra, Jehova and Sepiroth never existed and Aerith and Zack are now our communist Ancient overlords ruling over a planet of peace and love without those dirty capitalists Shinra Executives.

You know a JRPG with a Normal ass story with no convoluted psycho babble exists, it's called The Tales series.
As a fan of the tales series, I will 100% say

BULL-FUCKING-SHIT to that.

I don't know about that first part their chief. You could just as well speculate that if he didn't see Tifa go to the Wall Market and she didn't come back from it (on time with Shin-ra's plan known), he probably would have been flatter than a pancake. Alternatively, if Cloud had died when he fell, survived but fell somewhere else or had to spend time recuperating from say severe concussion to say the least, or fell in the Church without Aeris in the vicinity and then subsequently didn't notice Tifa go to the Wall Market, than that would have altered the course of things to come significantly. I think it's a bit much to pin things (well some things) that happen early on Cloud's second chance encounter with Aeris. I agree with the emotional stuff though.

On another note, looking back on the original, I have to ask the following things because they've been really bugging my brother and I

1) How exactly did Sephiroth/Jenova come back/was let loose (Note : you could ask yourselves this question too with regards to the remake)? I never got that. Was all it took was for Cloud to see Jenova or something?

2) How the hek did Aeris get to the Forgotten Capital from the Temple of the Ancients? I mean, I can see this question being akin to how Maria from Symphony of the Night somehow manages to get herself halfway over the castle in seconds, but come on. Then again, like I was telling my brother the other day, even if it made sense how Aeris got to the Forgotten Capital before any of her friends, would the audience really care to know? It's not like it would be particularly interesting to know that their was some helicopter near by that she hi-jacked or hitched a ride on. It still bugs me a bit though.

3) Speaking of making it to places across the world, how does Cloud go from the Northern Crater to that town down South? Was it the lifestream (it's been a long time since I played the original so forgive me a bit for asking)? Is that also the reason why Sephiroth's actual body is by the Northern Crater?

4) How did both Cloud and Tifa managed to escape the lifestream again?

Zack is alive in another timeline. There are a lot of people saying that it's just a "flashback" and Zack dies shortly after from his wounds, but this just isn't the case. They show the glitters or whatever falling and healing Biggs who wakes up (Timeline change, he was supposed to die), you then see Zack get back up after the explosion, he is now healed and able to carry Cloud.

It's now a split timeline. Like I speculated a few pages back, this is all about merging timelines and getting that perfect happy ending. Aerith will live, and I would not be surprised if part 2 that we play as Zack at some point, At some point, maybe at the very end, the timelines merge, Zack reunites with Aerith, Cloud and Tifa get together, Jessie stays a dead thot - fan fics everywhere come true.
If we only had ze Time Kompression.

Mideel's really close to the Lifestream, so when Cloud fell into it at the Northern Crater, he was spat out right at Mideel. I think that's what happened with Sephiroth too when Cloud tossed him down into the reactor.

Played through it with about 34 hours played.
I really enjoyed the fleshing out of the characters.
Those ghosts are essentialy ff7 purists who want the story to stay exactly the same?
lol now this one makes sense.

I enjoyed the fighting mechanics but sometimes the controls were fucking atrocious outside of battles. And they did not teach how to counter properly.

The only series where that applies is TWEWY, and even then the series is just fuel for the versus XIII kingdom hearts nomura hateboner

Since the game is split into parts, what will happen to the progression of your characters' stats and items with the next installment? How will those stats get transferred since the next part will most likely be on the next gen consoles? Will they even attempt to transfer your progress to the next game?

Beyond characters and scenario, this is one of the major points I would like to see the developers address.

Somebody might have dug into it, but in case anyone thought Aeris VA sucked...well, it could be because she pretty much has barely voice acted.

...I'll admit it. She's kind of cute. Certainly cuter than I'd expected.

And here for those of you who want to play the sub vs. dub game

Not sure. I asked that myself a few days ago.

Wonder ho

The whispers/ghosts are customers that bought a game based on years of assurances by the development team, the marketing staff, and game trailers that Fan Fiction VII was going to be a "faithful remake" of a classic with altered gameplay to accommodate modern tastes.

Cloud falls into a Sector 5 church and has no idea how to get back to Sector 7. I am right.

Cloud would probably still have gone after Sephiroth beacause 1. He's super durable. 2. Re....un...i...on
He would be drawn to Sephiroth because of Reunion (I forgot this, Hojo even implies that his "revenge" motive is just his mind rationalizing Reunion in the original) but it would take him forever to learn about Sephiroth being "back" unless he was there in the building. It's not the same motivation for us as audience/player at any rate. He'd probably leave Midgar, bringing Tifa if he didn't assume she was dead, and his mercenary wanderlust would "coincidentally" draw him toward Sephiroth.

I’m happy with the remake. I never played FF7 as a kid, so I had no nostalgia attachment to it. Tried to play it recently and I really didn’t care for it. Im excited that they are going full batshit, FF plots are never any good anyways, at least this will be so bad it’s good.

How exactly did Sephiroth/Jenova come back/was let loose
At the climax of the nibelheim incident cloud throws Sephiroth and Jenova's head into the lifestream. Sephiroth is too strong-willed go be dissolved into the lifestream and his body winds up crystalized at the Northern Crater. He may or may not have fused with the head. From the NC Sephiroth can exert his will onto other people who have jenova cells in their body, both subtly and overtly, which is how he manifests in the Shinra building; there's a handful of black robed men roaming Midgar who were either former SOLDIERs or Hojo experiments. During his massacre at the Shinra building he reclaims Jenovas body which he uses to create the various Jenova bosses.

Cloud fell into the lifestream post northern Crater while brain was all fucked up. The lifestream is basically a massive interconnected underground river of magic planet juice that wells up in certain spots, which is how Shinra are able to build reactors to create Mako. A natural untouched lifestream pool can be found in my nibel and is displayed during Clouds flashback. Presumably he just washed up on one of these on the island or underwater and washed ashore

I just saw an ad for this on youTube and holy fuck what sort of braindead monkeys do they have in their marketing department? The ad shows no gameplay, tells you nothing about the story, and if I didn't know what Final Fantasy was I would assume it was boring as fuck from that ad.

From everything I've heard about this since release I feel vindicated in having ignored it's existence and continuing to do so.
