The Final Fantasy Thread

So here's something I've wondered, yet never found an explanation for:

Is there any reason behind why spell tiers are named the way they are? Like, Cure/Cura/Curaga/Curaja as opposed to Cure/Cure 2/Cure 3/Cure 4. Do those suffixes mean something in Jappo or is it just random bullshit
i hope it’s random bullshit.

They were limited by character space for names in the early games and needed a way to make the spells sound more powerful without resorting to Cure1, Cure2, Cure3. Shit like the "aga" suffix means something but it's middle eastern.

How THE fuck do you raise agility in FF2? I followed some steam guide that said I could only raise it with high evasion but now mine is at 10 X 99% and I've been grinding weapon levels on captains in Flynn but no agility at all. Is there something I'm missing?

Playing Pixelremaster if it helps.

IIRC you give them shields and then attack your guy who has shields equipped. FF2 is where the best way to level is to just attack your own party members.

The only thing bad about FF2 PR is the higher encounter rate, that's what squeenix thinks on how they should make the game easier for modern audiences lol.

Another thing why levelling Agility in FF2 is really really important, is because it also affects ambushes/pre-emptive strikes and since there are enemies that can OHKO your entire party like the fucking chimeras and their petrifying breath...

I finally decided to play through FFVII.

I gotta ask. Is it necessary or even worth it to get all the best limit breaks and materia such as the Knight Of The Round Summon? The grind to get what you need to access them looks agonizing, to say the least.

KOTR Summons Materia is worth it for the final boss fights plus you get a lot of decent super rare materia while you breed the Chocobos to get the one that can get to the cave where the KOTR Summons material is hidden.

But you can get buy not getting the ultiamte weapons and limit breaker stuff

I think I'll limit (no pun intended) the ultimate and final attacks to the characters I use the most then.

Gotta say, even though I'm still on the first disc of this massive game, it really holds up well after all these years. Don't think I've been this engrossed in a game's world and story in a while.

Nah, there's enough endgame DPS gamebreakers in ff7 that you can afford to miss the summon and still clear the superbosses.

I've found with VII character choice doesn't matter too much. Yes some are better at things than others, but since anyone can use any materia they don't need to focus on a dedicated role. Although some limit breaks are definitely better than others, Barret, Cid and Yuffie's are great, Vincent's is very situational and Cait Sith's is a liability.

Where on the "fair to bullshit" slider is the FF7 New Threat mod in terms of actual difficulty? I'm wanting some more challenge in my FF7 playthrough but I'm not interested in minmax extreme grinding and PhD-level knowledge of the battle system stuff.

Should be noted that getting KOTR summon will make the final boss harder.

As others have said, you don't need to get everybody's ultimate limit as some character's other limits are better, Anything that does multiple hits is going to be the better choice.

Can't get more multi-hit than Cloud's Omnislash. Needs to be their Number 1 priority.

Cid's Highwind and Barret's Catastrophe are the other level 4 limits that do multi-hits. The level 3-2s are Yuffie's Doom of the Living, and Red XIII's Earth Rave (though I think Stardust Ray is better if you tinker with stats enough and have a specific weapon that helps push it's damage to the cap).

Why in the world they gave Tifa a weird slot machine limit when Cait Sith already had that is beyond me.

Her real issue is that terrible ultimate weapon imo. Better to use something else but it sucks how everyone else gets something more worthwhile. Hell I think even Aeris’ has a theoretically more useful gimmick.
I use basically all the characters but past Midgar I found she usually had to be micromanaged more than I cared for. But I’m also by no means a build expert.

iirc the most meta party is Cid, Yuffie, Cloud and you keep Yuffie at her third level limit breaks. Though All Creation can be potent against Emerald Weapon.

It's why her second best weapon, God's Hand, is considered by many to be her actual best weapon. It's 255% accuracy rate means the Death Blow skill never misses.

Eh, Aeris' ultimate weapon has no materia slots IIRC and most people stick her with one of the earlier weapons because it buffs her magic stat. Unless you were meaning her ultimate limit break. It's literally a temporary god mod cheat in non-cheat form.
