The Final Fantasy Thread

There are rumors that FFT might get a fresh remake like Tactics Ogre did and with the remake of Live A Live (that was the most surprising news) and this recent trend of SE remakes, I can believe it. Still kind of weird that the main series is getting remasters instead but okay.

Recently Matsuno has had a decent working relationship with SE due to his involvement in various projects on FFXIV (one of which was pretty much a giant bit of Ivalice fan service). Triangle Strategy is at least attempting a similar idea of being a political heavy drama with a idealistic noble protagonist while being an SRPG, so it isn't impossible that FFT might get some sort of reconsideration with Matsuno at the head. Without Matsuno a FFT remake will not be even remotely the same, so they'll probably never do it without him.

From the Rat Pack making the 40s cool again, to Happy Days dripping with nostalgia for the 50s, to Goldberg still wrestling past 2003; there's money in things we loved 20 years ago.

Just junction ultima to attack that's all you need to do in FF8.

You can cause phased bosses to spaz out and freeze for a few seconds because you hit them so hard that the game has to delay loading up their next phase.

I ended up replaying almost the entire series up to 9, minus 2 and 8, because of the pixel remasters. That's the kind of autism I haven't unleashed since I was a kid.

One thing that I've noticed is that ever since 7, they've fallen in love with putting in all of these needless mini games. The card games in 8 and 9 are incredibly lame but at least you can skip them almost entirely. With 7 you have some retarded mini game pop up every couple of hours, and the only one that isn't a complete mess is chocobo racing. I didn't even bother getting omnislash this time because I missed the added effect materia and didn't want to deal with having to play mini games just to get the points to fight in the arena on top of it.

It sucks too because the game is great aside having to drop everything to play some mini game constantly.

It's the reason why mini-games were mostly regulated to the DLC and side quests. Game design philosophy has changed and what was once considered impressive, can now be copnsidered tedious because people don't want to get cockblocked by having the game change genres mid game.

The 7 remake allows you to pretty much skip everything, the one series that still has it bad though is Kingdom hearts. I think Birth by Sleep was the worst offender.

The Chocobo breeding in this game is infuriating. It's been 25 years and I have not summoned Knights of the Round.

Keep your inbred gold chocobos.
I got KotR when I was a kid

waste of fucking time

Like seriously, the whole chocobo breeding thing felt long in the tooth even when I was a literal child who was experiencing FF7 while it was brand new, loving the crap out of it, and even getting to play it alongside a friend of mine at the time. Finally making it to the gold chocobo wasn't satisfying at all, largely because it only serves to allow you to access Knights of the Round, and has no other worthwhile function that the airship didn't already give you.

He and I debated on how you pronounce "chocobo", since this was long before voice acting, and he guessed "kook-uh-buh". I stuck with "choke-oh-bo" and I was right, woohoo

After two hours of farming nuts, I felt like my brains had separated from my body.

60% of Sonic Adventure is dedicated to collecting crayons so you can teach Chao to win races/do karate.

Triple Triad is fucking awesome you troglodyte.

I can't even remember what the fucking one in FF9 is called and it was ass AND they force you to play it to continue the story.

That said, FF9 is a good game and pretty underrated but it underperformed compared to FF 7 and 8 due to the tonal shift. That said, it's getting a cartoon because of the post-Nintendo games, it's the most kid friendly of the games and one that you can adapt/expand/fuck around with storyline-wise with the most minimum fandom backlash.
twink faggot kuja with thong, the furries and eiko weirded out a lot of people from what I remember, myself included. kid friendly? I guess edgelords love their genocides like 6fags.
This thing that stupid easter eggs were a spit to the "darker and edgier" 7 & 8 is something that I don't believe at all and sounds like something out of a butthurt 6fag writing a review for gamespot or IGN.
Not saying that you are wrong but I contest this narrative that 9 was a throwback to the 'good old school' FF, it never felt like that to me.

Fort Condor and the Bike Chase were awesome. You can keep the Submarine and the Snowboard though, while they have their moments I can do without them, and they never inteferred with the story beats. But If you count the CPR and small shit like that as something that breaks your immersion, get your ADHD in check. Triple Triad is ok, Tetra Master can go fuck itself. Man I hate 9 so goddamn much.

Imagine doing gold saucer shit to get GP for Omnislash in the Arena.
You got filtered man.

Fort Condor sucks because, IIRC, you have to play that mini-game multiple times on the spot to get a super valuable Summons Materia (Phoenix) that, IIRC, you can't get again if you don't get it the first time.

The really annoying one for me, mini-game wise is the Chocobo Racing/Breeding because you have to spend DAYS breeding and racing and breeding and finding the necessary greens and nuts to get different Chocobos all to get the one that can obtain the Knights of the Round materia.

Minigames like those are fun if you don't have to do them, and they're not complete dogshit. The CPR thing though? That was a waste of time. Everything could of been resolved without some pointless minigame.

If you know the enemy formations it's pretty quick.

Although honestly I wonder how long it would take you if you just went in blind and listened to the yammering badly translated Chocobo Sage.
Yeah. I can see that happening. Could of been worse though; Remember all the schoolyard rumors you'd hear?

Nah you don't, you have to do the only time in the huge materia quest, you can even lose the minigame on purpose and do the fight yourself and get Phoenix anyways. There is a sidequest to do Fort Condor multiple times throughout the story before Huge Materia for different rewards though.

Chocobo Racing/Breeding is a side quest though. And it's not that bad. You need to save some Gil for buying greens for the stats in the racing. If you hate it so much, cheat it out by replenish stamina in the race holding the 4 triggers and relying on the sprint whenever necessary. You can get Gold Chocobo in 1 hr or 2 if you cheese it.
