The Final Fantasy Thread

twink faggot kuja with thong, the furries and eiko weirded out a lot of people from what I remember, myself included. kid friendly? I guess edgelords love their genocides like 6fags.
This thing that stupid easter eggs were a spit to the "darker and edgier" 7 & 8 is something that I don't believe at all and sounds like something out of a butthurt 6fag writing a review for gamespot or IGN.
Not saying that you are wrong but I contest this narrative that 9 was a throwback to the 'good old school' FF, it never felt like that to me.

Fort Condor and the Bike Chase were awesome. You can keep the Submarine and the Snowboard though, while they have their moments I can do without them, and they never inteferred with the story beats. But If you count the CPR and small shit like that as something that breaks your immersion, get your ADHD in check. Triple Triad is ok, Tetra Master can go fuck itself. Man I hate 9 so goddamn much.

Imagine doing gold saucer shit to get GP for Omnislash in the Arena.
You got filtered man.
I beat the game didn't I? Not only without omnislash, but I also skipped Yuffie and Vincent because they add nothing to the game. Based ADHD.

Disagree.

Yuffie is your replacement for Aerith in terms of healing limit breaker (which lets you save space not having to have everyone carry healing materia). Vincent is super strong and works great as a tank character.

Plus, his sidequests answers some of the bigger of lore questions that don't get resolved if you don't find him.

Also missed out on the Leviathan materia, and wrapping up what happened to Don Corneo.

Fort Condor sucks because, IIRC, you have to play that mini-game multiple times on the spot to get a super valuable Summons Materia (Phoenix) that, IIRC, you can't get again if you don't get it the first time.
Fort Condor is very poorly explained. You are supposed to visit semi-regularly to donate and fight off waves for treasure. The huge materia and phoenix summon are story missions and required so they follow slightly different rules. But generally speaking it is a long-term quest.

Those hippies can get fucked. Rufus did nothing wrong.

Meanwhile the remake version of Fort Condor is actually pretty fun.

They're basically the Warhammer tabletop game in universe. You can do different builds and loadouts.

One thing that I've noticed is that ever since 7, they've fallen in love with putting in all of these needless mini games. The card games in 8 and 9 are incredibly lame but at least you can skip them almost entirely. With 7 you have some retarded mini game pop up every couple of hours, and the only one that isn't a complete mess is chocobo racing. I didn't even bother getting omnislash this time because I missed the added effect materia and didn't want to deal with having to play mini games just to get the points to fight in the arena on top of it.

It sucks too because the game is great aside having to drop everything to play some mini game constantly.
I got KotR when I was a kid

waste of fucking time

Like seriously, the whole chocobo breeding thing felt long in the tooth even when I was a literal child who was experiencing FF7 while it was brand new, loving the crap out of it, and even getting to play it alongside a friend of mine at the time. Finally making it to the gold chocobo wasn't satisfying at all, largely because it only serves to allow you to access Knights of the Round, and has no other worthwhile function that the airship didn't already give you.
After two hours of farming nuts, I felt like my brains had separated from my body.

I gotta admit, I was abusing the cheats on the PS4 version on order to speed up the Chocobo betting and Battle Arena sections. There was no way I was gonna sit through that long race sequence for hours on end, and I was just that determined to get Omnislash early without having to wait till I was at a higher level.

As for getting the Gold Chocobo and the Knights Of The Round summon, that was a piece of cake, and I immediately started on it after getting the airship, and as a result, it was in my hands almost immediately at the start of Disc 2. Again though, I was using the cheats. Also, this guide also allowed me to get it without going through the racing bit of the Chocobo breeding process.

Given how torturous the process of getting it normally and without Speed Mode and Instant Limit Breaks is, it seems I made the right call. You can call me a scrub, but grinding is one of my least favorite parts of any game.

Only issue I have with infinite limit breaks is that using them levels up your limit level. But I guess you can use tier 2 ones.
I use the Fury status to speed it by anyway cuz I like getting Great Gospel and using it at the Temple.

FF9 is a gay ass game for furries and we need to never talk about it, now we need to see a REAL final fantasy game.

How? It's been a while but I don't ever remember spending more than maybe 20min
I always crapped out by getting the wrong color/sex while breeding, so I had to resort to funky RNG manipulation like some do. Then my B-class chocobo would hit a wall and get smoked in the race, anyways.

All I see are reasons to talk about FF9
What @Jordi El Nino Polla is trying to say is, haha well fuck 'em! they overanalyzed an innocent and enjoyable thing! shitty netizens trapped in their own webs!

We already have an oversexualized furry race!

You don't need Yuffie for that. White Wind, Big Guard and a bunch of other broken shit fit neatly into the enemy skill materia, which stays useful and relevant for the entire game. Besides, I only rock with my bros Cid and Red.

I only rock with my bro Cid
He's a chain-smoking, hard-drinking "tea" man with anger management issues. Let's automatically make him leader once Cloud is out of the party.

(I mean he does have better music.)
Vincent's stats are strange iirc.

Vincent is the Kimahri of 7: uninteresting character, his Limits suck. and his stats are awful. I know you can salvage him with Deathblow, but he's still an inferior Aerith in every category.

Come to think of it, while FF8 didn't have the mini game problem, the constant party switching and junction trading had the same effect of bringing the game to a screeching halt. It didn't take very long, but it was hard not to get annoyed by it because it happened so often and sometimes only moments before switching back.

FF9 was much better in those regards, and while FF7 was probably better overall, replaying FF9 is generally the better experience because it doesn't have any parts that really jam the game up. The only pain in the ass is the chocobo game, and you can skip like 90% of that if you're just going for the top end gear, or just skip it entirely and it isn't even a big deal. Just a nice, smooth game about a horny dickhead, a princess, Chris Chan as a knight, and a sad boy.
