The Final Fantasy Thread

She was always like this but because of the overall brevity of the original it could feel less on the nose.
Not simply insisting that Cloud should cross-dress, but then mocking him and calling him "Miss Cloud" for going along with her plan.

Wall Market must be pretty alarming to someone who only knows Aerith from AC/KH.

Final Fantasy 1-2 would be the better announcement. We already have a Final Fantasy 1-0

Stranger of Paradise is so weird. I like it, it's a callback to all the older games, but the format is just so fucking jarring.

Also would not recommend playing on an OG Xbone because the battle resolution is fucking horrendous

This is a great post but it's in the thread about Cinemassacre so I'm replying to it here:
That's the other subject I wanted to get into. All of Final Fantasy is honestly subjective by installment. For every one you hate, there's at least a crowd of fans who would be happy to kick your shit in over it. Even XIII, which I am not a fan of, is a fucking ultimate separator. Everyone out west fucking hates XIII, while everyone in Japan loves it and considered it game of the year. It's practically an unspoken rule that anyone sane keeps to their own stuff in terms of Final Fantasy, because anyone who has been an entitled fanwhore about their preferences and standing becomes a lolcow in the fandom.

The only Final Fantasy that everyone can agree on that all fans do not like is the Spirits Within movie. That was a fucking nuke to Sakaguchi's career, and that was the point that Final Fantasy never could come back the same way again.
Yeah, I really can't think of a more divisive series. It blew my mind when I found out that Japanese polls tend to say FFX was the best one, and VI wasn't seen as anything special. If there's one rule about Japanese games, it's that Japan makes games for Japan and no one else, which is why they never do anything with VI as a franchise outside of bullshit mobile ports. I've always wondered what Japan thinks of VI being considered sacred overseas.

I've also wondered if anyone else thinks FFVI is closer in tone to the Fallout series than Final Fantasy. That'd certainly explain one reason why VI is a bigger nigger hither than thither.

edit: And speaking of FF being divisive, I've thought about writing up a review on Final Fantasy V. I'm around 21 hours in, saved at Galuf's castle in the second world, and I've got such mixed feelings about this game. All I'm certain about so far is that I would have loved this game to pieces had I played it as a young child in place of FF Mystic Quest (which I did, and I did love it to pieces, but find it unpalatable now). The concept that it didn't get release here because Americans would find the job system too complicated is some of the most ridiculous horseshit I've ever heard, and I'm certain my child self would have loved it. It's like saying Lego is too complicated because you can swap body parts around and make new minifigs.
