The Final Fantasy Thread

It's no worse than Tidus kicking a fake Blitzball which exploded then and killed him.
Most likely the gigantic fucking mech hidden under Bevelle getting his revenge. On Tidus. Who shouldn't be alive. And also they were traveling back in time. Yuna broke up with him and he kicked a bomb. Despite being a blitzball star and probably knowing what one should look like. Then he was resurrected because Yuna got sad.

Anyway. Even Japan hated whatever the fuck that was.

Here's my rating of the series

OG FF7 : Very good classic. a lot easier to get into then many of the other numbered FF's due to a more futuristic setting and simple combat. The Main character is one of the most compelling in the business, the party members are fantastic and it has a memorable if uncomplex villain.

Going from advent children to FF7, There was a lot more characters and side quests then I was expecting. Everybody looks like legos, but you get used to it.

Crisis Core: A great prequel and fun psp game. Lot of people give Gackt shit, but it's the best in the compilation for properly fleshing out Zack, Sephiroth and the worlds backstory, eventually leading straight into the events of 7. Gackt does steal a lot of screen time but I thought he was an interesting villain, if a bit indecipherable in the beginning. His presence as sephiroth's rival makes the setting feel a bit bigger and more interesting.

gameplay was fun, but it gets repetative if you do the side quests, also if your not playing on an emulator you cant fast forward though summons and special movies. Those take an age an a half to get though.

Before Crisis: Neat back story into the Turks and the first version of AVALANCHE, there's a lot of shinra backstabbing and politics involved. Takes place before, during and a little bit after Crisis Core. Unfortunately its a phone game that never made it out of japan. Although it has a fangame, ive never tried it.

Advent Children and AC Complete: Almost final tail end of the OG timeline before the Remake. I really enjoyed it, but its a movie that basically requires you play the original in order to understand what the hell is going on. Looks dam pretty and has some fantastic fight scenes. The complete edition has extra scenes and fights, that make the movie more comprehensible and kickass.

Dirge of Cerberus: Probably the worst one in the series in terms of plot. Now the base conflict itself is pretty fucking solid. It's a year after advent children and a bunch of pissed off insane, tron looking, genocidal super commandos come out from underground to kill everything, that's literally it. The gameplay is surprisingly tight. you might hate it if your not an FPS guy, but I dug how you had to manage ammo and gun mods.

The main problem, is the plot keeps getting sidetracked, overshadowed and outright derailed by Vincient's fucking cuck romance with this science babe who fucked hojo over him. She's in a crystal coma and for some dumbass reason he cant seem to let the bitch go. If you can ignore/skip those parts, it has some good stuff in it. But it is in the game way more then it fucking should be and there's no payoff.

FF7 Remake: It's fantastic and I love the direction they are taking it in. It has flaws for sure, but from a plot and structure standpoint, I have no issues with it. It's very nostalgic at times if you played the original, but there's an subtle, intentional feeling that something is very wrong. I like how the overarching theme is the conflict between making it a faithful recreation, or a going outside the box and changing history.

Sephiroth feels a little... off, but it helps if you realize there's there's
more then one version of him. It's never spelled out or even implied, but there's something impersonating him to piss off cloud to change history, and its not entirely clear who or what it is. There's Cloud's memory's/hallucinations, Jenovia, whatever's egging on cloud, and then the final "real" sephiroth at the end

Gameplay is fairly good, but I personally recommend putting it on easy and just enjoying it as a mindless hack and slash. The difficulty on medium feels too.... MMO ish. Also for the love of god turn off the top left control guide, I have no idea why they put that there. The filler is a little annoying at times, but the side quests were well done fluff in my opinion. you'll wont lose anything if you decide to skip em.

It just looked terrible, didn't it? There's a failed plot twist where Rufus is revealed to have survived but he hid under a pile of clothes (genius!!).
Ive read the FF7 novels, They arent half bad to be honest. Mosty just slice of life stuff, but Rufus's was particularly interesting. The actual reason he survived is because his dad showed him a secret escape lever when he was a kid and he remembered it at the last second. He felt pretty dam stupid and humbled the old man saved his life. His book was probably the best out of the series, and there are some interesting implications he was sincere in his desire to repent for Shinra's crimes.

No.

No no no fucking no. I go to the Mike Stoklasa school on this one. I don't care about your expanded universe and I don't give a shit if they wrote some book. If it wasn't in the movie game then I don't care.
The Japanese do it better then Disney. You could use the shit they write for star wars as toilet paper. While we are at it, the stuff written for FF13 was pretty dam interesting.
