The Final Fantasy Thread

You forgot the seventh: Aerith's death is prevented by the main character's, but, in exchange, someone else dies instead, most likely Tifa, leaving Aerith heartbroken and guilty because she believes she was supposed to die.
And whoever the player has tried to romance is the one that lives. Or dies because Square would do that, too.

Considering Nomura mentioned in an interview a while ago that Sephiroth can be thought of as a protagonist in Rebirth, I’d say a face turn is very possible.

And if the player tries to subvert expectations by going after Yuffie instead, BOTH of them die.
And if you try to pick none of them, and instead goes as far as to choose Barret as the one to take on the date (if they still let you do that) to help avoid it all, he's the one that dies.

There is no escape.

Edit: Apparently, they are because the official twitter account just posted this. (archive)

I see six possibilities here.
  1. Genesis kills Aerith, or tries to, but someone stops him.
  2. Sephiroth tries to kill Aerith like normal, but is stopped by Cloud/Zack/Aerith herself/etc, or even stupider, another Sephiroth from a different timeline.
  3. The original scene still plays out, but the actual cause of death is confirmed to be Cloud accidentally drowning her like that old popular fan theory suggests.
  4. Cloud himself accidentally kills Aerith while trying to save her, or on purpose because of some plot reason that has yet to be revealed.
  5. Aerith kills herself for the same unrevealed plot reason.
  6. It goes down the exact same way, and Square's just been fucking with us the entire time.
My bet is on #7.

- The scene plays out almost 100% the same, but Sephiroth kills Cloud instead (because Cloud is the one that is the actual problem) with Zach having to fill in for Cloud once they all meet up.

I want it to be number 6. I think that would produce the more REEE-ing than any of the other options.

It really wouldn’t, least of all compared to killing someone else like Tifa in her place.

The biggest meltdowns in the fandom have all followed Aerith getting favorable treatment. One of which was very recent and caused by the recent trailer (which people here still haven’t assimilated). It culminated in angry shippers attacking the guy who writes these games for “favoring Aerith.”

I dunno. I think the fans would pitch a bitch fit considering people are expecting something different to go down.

Also going to throw this out there to cover all bases: Aeris dies, but it's an Aeris from a different timeline, so this one remains alive.

Since these games are supposed to expand on the lore and history of the world of FF7, I'm going to use this question to judge how much they care beyond all the multiverse horseshit:

How did Corel go from wooded area to desert, and why is Gold Saucer on top of it?

I do not trust Square-Enix with that Barret scene...

It’s the blind leading the blind around here!
I don’t really understand how you guys have the confidence to discuss the upcoming game at all after getting upset with me for correctly describing the intent behind that last big trailer. Speaking of…
The point is that she had no professed, romantic interest in Cloud and the only person she had any confirmed romantic interest in was Zack. That has nothing to do with shipping. That's just what objectively happened.
I actually feel somewhat retarded for not remembering this. But still less retarded than Raz and everyone who agreed with that. Crisis Core was exceptionally mid but people let it hold their enjoyment of this series hostage. And you know they have lots of >opinions too. Fucked up we ever have to hear from them.

Do yourselves a favor and discard what any of them have to say.

okay so i dragged out my ps3 to play ffx again because i was watching some vids on how to make my characters suck less so i can actually fight dark yojimbo.

this is my story...

so far i've been able to beat him twice without using zanmato. the battle is luck-based, as far as i'm concerned. dark yojimbo has three attacks, two of them hit one character, and one of them hits the whole party (he also has an overdrive that is a guaranteed ohko on the entire party and removes auto-life, so the only way to avoid it is to throw out an aeon or beat him before his overdrive gauge fills up). in the first two battles he used the attack that hit the whole party only once in the second battle, which i was able to recover from, but only /barely/. my party is tidus, wakka, and auron, all with fully charged celestial weapons, all carrying armor with at least ribbon and break hp limit, with no maxed stats except for auron's strength. i've been grinding to get some luck and fortune spheres so i can get everyone's luck up to at least 80. an excessively high luck stat renders your evasion and accuracy stats irrelevant, which means they can safely be ignored for statmaxing. auron's luck stat is like 90-something, wakka's is 70-something, and tidus's is 50-something.

so my strategy is using the ol' backup plan for when you can't rely on zanmato - attack reels with a fully charged world champion. sure, it's pretty fucking cheap, but fuck you, i had to /work/ for wakka's ultimate weapon, his attack reels ability, and one of his sigils. i had to learn BLITZBALL. i /earned/ the right to cheese battles. and in spite of using this strategy, i still have a hard time because wakka just isn't doing enough damage per hit to beat yojimbo quickly, which becomes very important during the 4th and 5th battles where his overdrive gauge charges super fucking fast. fortunately i haven't maxed wakka's strength stat so at least he has the potential to get stronger, hopefully strong enough where i can avoid getting my shit kicked in.

/autism

This is my luck grinding setup. A slow one with bad RNG. 3-4 minutes is the usual time. Max Strength, Defense, Magic Defense, and Agility(170 is adequate). Lulu has 150 luck, Rikku 212, Wakka 189. Auto-Phoenix, Auto-Protect, Auto-Haste, Ribbon/Stoneproof armor(Dark Aeon armor). I'm putting together a Penance Extreme party(beating him without killing the arms), hence all the grinding.

Ultra NulAll(Healing Spring+Healing Spring) and Quick Hit. I had to Entrust the Overdrive gauges to Rikku for the Dark Matter grind. 3-5 Cheers will work with high enough stats, but it's slower.

Wakka is a bad motherfucker. Stoneproof armor because grinding Dark Matter is the worst shit of the entire Final Fantasy series.
