The Final Fantasy Thread

I'll wait for the opinion of people here about the new remake. The first part felt way too fake, like it had to do parts from the original just because it has to. The Yuffie dlc though was good. At least post Midgard you have way less famous moments.

I've shat my pants over all the things I didn't like in Part 1 enough, to the annoyance in my thread. But, to add to your fake part, one thing I didn't like was how 'sterilized' the slums were. Yeah it looked like a dump, but they absolutely failed to make it look as dangerous or slimy as the original game. Wall Market was made out to be more of a tourist trap and less of a red light district.

You're definitely not going to find Rude shooting up heroin gambling with the boys and I doubt you'll even get into fights while at Corel Prison

you articulated exactly what I was trying to explain to my woman without being able to about what I didn't like about Remake when I finished it a few months ago. for everything it added, I felt it lacked something. and this is what it was. she could not fathom how for 2 weeks I did nothing but play a game then proclaimed it sucked after I did everything but besides the story changes, which I cannot fathom how anyone on the fucking planet could enjoy the kingdom hearts faggotry they introduced, and the slow ass pace with forced walk and talk and slow ass maneuvers padding it out, it did a good job of making the world feel bigger and lived in which is my biggest positive about the game but also felt like it was lacking something in that, and I think this specifically was it. it didn't feel as gritty or "low" as I think I would have liked. it felt like a shithole but not THE shithole. actually to rephrase that it LOOKED like a shithole, it didn't FEEL like a shithole.

The thing is, I played ff7 a decade ago and the entire Midgard part was like 4 hours that I only remember a few things from. But the game seems hellbent on making memberberries on multiple points only die hard fans that replayed 7 multiple times remember.

Making the slums (or really the entire Avalanche movement) be corporate safe is also a part of the issue. And no one important dying further reinforces the corporate edginess.

I didn't pay much attention to Remake because of how Tifa was effectively put into a motherfucking burkha compared to the source material.

Then I saw that in Rebirth, the beach scene has the type of fan service that makes the trannies and faggots seethe and hyperventilate.

For that reason alone, I'm going to go and buy both games because this type of developer courage should be rewarded.

Yeah, neither game will ever live up to the original but this may be the best that we can hope for in current year.

Everything is out of order this time round. It's not going to be a stright line from A to B. Not to mention History has been changed. That's why Wutai isnt in this. They are a peer power to Shinra now and they didnt want to make them the comic relief nation anymore. If im not mistaken I think the soldiers we saw in the very first trailer are from wutai.
Yep. From what I remember of the Crisis Core thing I played on PC as well as the Yuffie DLC there was a nasty arms race between Wutai and Shinra during the war that saw various tamed monsters and stompy robots get deployed, and that the SOLDIERS were part of that as a super-soldier initiative. IIRC it was also the first time materia got deployed as combat weapons.

It would make for an interesting subject. Definitely would be better than the tourist trap that Wutai was in the original. I still have no faith in their expanded writing ability.

Ok c’mon, that’s a massive exaggeration. She had thigh highs on in the remake and that’s it. There’s no way that’s comparable to a burkha.
So she's got a sports bra on big deal. The orbs are still huge lol

Yuffie mentioned something about her father getting arrested, I don't remember if that was in the original or not but they must have new leadership. Shinra certainly hyped wutai as an actual threat way more in the remake then when they were non-existent in the original. That combined with the new mystery emissary they sent to Rufus, I think they are gonna be a much bigger deal.

I'm betting they'll be enough of a threat that shinra will consider deployment of deep ground. That would rock my socks off.

wutai's fortune, seems to be what's altering the timeline or a product of the changes.

Played through FF7Remake recently. I was surprised with the changes made to the story (I had a lot of "that wasn't in the original" moments) and am curious to see where it leads from there especially if it means Aerith can be saved. Intermission was pretty fun for a short DLC, and something tells me they're going to nerf Yuffie's moveset after her "can hit any elemental weakness" ninjutsu.

I am now also unable to get any of the Happy Turtle jingles out of my head.

Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

In all seriousness though, how is the gameplay, especially the combat in these games ? Is it enjoyable ?
I can only answer for Remake as I haven't tried the Rebirth demo, but I think it works. In combat the low amount of ATB bars encourages you to use special abilities and items constantly in fights, and being able to dodge/guard attacks means I actually use it instead of flat out attacking in traditional turn-based combat. Only thing that really sucks is if you're unfortunate enough to get interrupted, you lose whatever you're doing and the ATB bar(s).

Protip: Don't play on hard mode unless you're a masochist.

Depends on your taste in gameplay. It’s a mix of both turn based and real time combat, so it can appeal to both sides of the spectrum. I find it fun. Some may not like it because it’s not fully turn based, some may not like it because it’s not completely real time, some may like the mix. I’d just watch gameplay videos or try the demos to these games.

Rebirth is better, but it's still pretty decent. I wanted something more like kh but if you play on easy and don't want to pause and strategize that's perfectly viable. In the original though I thought there was a real lack of basic attack moves for cloud. Rebirth fixes hat, honestly it was a little overwhelming how many attack options I could pick and choose for rebirth

@ps1gamewatch. Without reading past spoilers I really like the idea that remake aerith has limited knowledge of what happens in the future rather than being a straight up time traveler. The theory goes that she saw everything that happened up until her death (perhaps beyond, the whispers stole some of her memories so it's hard to tell) when she looks at the mako in the alleyway beginning. This would be a callback to the last scene in the original 7 being her looking at the mako in the alley again.

I really like the idea of her thinking she knows what to do to "fix" things and screws up because her understanding of what's really going on is limited. She doesn't realize the butterfly effect she's causing and the possibility that there's more then one player in the game.
