The Final Fantasy Thread

I'm at Cosmo canyon right now. Meeting Bugenhagen and seeing his digs was pretty bittersweet considering he's inspired design wise by Akira Toriyama's work. Really cool otherwise.

The writing is really surprising me with how ballsy it's getting. Your in what amounts to the birthplace of this worlds version of environmentalism and almost everyone in the party starts asking some sharp questions. Even Barrett starts getting a little skeptical.

Not only do they grill bugenhagen and his followers, they manage to get him to admit he doesn't know for sure if he's right about the planet dying. ( "I hear the cries of the planet." "You sure that isn't just coming from WEAPON?") They even get into a little AA environmental meeting and (politely) point out how pointless it is. That being said there's a really good balance to it, they are not shitting on bugenhagen. He and his followers are respected, they just question if he's correct. Heck he even questions himself.

Better writing then most stuff now.

And I thought Remake was bad. Rebirth is depressingly bad. The characters are disgustingly incompetent. How many times did they watch Cloud lose it and never once confront him or brace themselves in case he tries attacking one of their own again (already happens twice)?

Why should people even be rooting for the protagonists at this point? You can't even root for Sephiroth this time around because at any point in Part 2, he could have shown up and killed anyone he wanted and yet he doesn't do that. He can't even kill Tifa who got swallowed by a mini-weapon, but he can kill Aeris presumably across other timelines. That part is easy for him.

He's just waiting for the right time to impale Cloud on his Masamune, judging by all the baiting SE is doing.

Yeah, one of those nip faggots said that they were going to tie in things from all the other ff7 games, including Advent children. Those three whisper dudes you fight at the end are supposed to be the three Sephiroth clones from the movie. The Yuffie dlc had stuff from dirge of cerebus in it too, they're including everything it seems.
I mean I'm game. Why not fanwank these useless and dead titles they baited everyone into suffering through? It's not like I'll ever get my time back from watching Advent Children. Might as well do something with it.

Alright just I finished the game, this graphic is actually a perfect breakdown of what's happening in the last part of the game. They do bring up the empty holy materia earlier in the game but fuck me if I can remember what they said about it. There's way too much fluff in this game with all the open world side activity crap.
I mean that's how I'll remember this game. A beautiful confusing mess. It looks great, plays good, lots to do and have fun with. Very fanwanky. Not much sense to be had. Very brainless fun.

I'm playing all the pixel remasters and finished the first two.
I still don't understand why people hated ff2.
It's because you're playing the Pixel Remaster which is an infinitely better experience for lots of reasons. FF2 is a broken mess of a game. You can either get Minwu early on, venture into high level parts of the overworld and grind levels on extraordinarily difficult late game monsters through tedious combat or be under leveled. The dungeon layout is confusing and they're all the same "generic maze" with different backgrounds. The level system makes the game grindy and not in a good way. The plot isn't great. People die for the sake of dying. The enemy encounter rate is absurd. It's honestly just not that fun. It's a much slower game when you don't have a fast forward button or auto-battle feature. The music is good though.

The real devil is FF3. Fun game up until the final dungeons. (Yes, plural) Then it's two difficult dungeons with several bosses back to back where you can't save (Outside of Pixel Remaster). The final bosses are basically just Stat Checks so don't even bother going to the final boss unless you're level 65-70, you won't win. In the original DS release you could dupe Elixirs and spam full heals every single turn and still lose to the final bosses because they're just meant to be stat beat sticks. There's a very set bar you have to be at in order to win.

Hard? Too. The final dungeon is crazy as fuck. Just fleeing all the way and fighting chests monsters before the Emperor reborn.
You're either vastly over leveled for that final dungeon or severely under leveled with no in between.

The original was no better in this regard. To be honest I never really LIKED FF7 all that much but I think a lot of people remember it being better than it is.

holy fuck, i was joking about Squeenix making Sephiroth a dindu good boy and a lot of you fuckers are actually entertaining the idea to the point of wanting it to happen....

I guess squeenix deserves its drooling retards of a fanbase
I want him to keep the baggage but form a temporary alliance against Genesis and co before a final revengence style duel.

Quite honestly with how retarded the remake trilogy’s story already is, I really don’t even care what they do with it at this point.

Are the pixel remasters worth it because I am interested in getting a copy but almost $100 for some remasters seems steep

its worth it if you sail the high seas. Tecmo along with Squeenix are the ones in Steam that dont really discount their prices even if its a decade old game

Sephiroth is clearly not going to join the players side, its obvious from the ending cutscene with Rufus talking to Glenn that Genesis is the mysterious Viceroy and is working with Septhiroth to change the timeline. I for one am happy to finally have a conclusion to that after credits scene from Dirge of Cerberus, somehow Genesis must have used Weiss omega weapon powers to get between worlds and helped his buddy Sephiroth out.

I loved the idea of the Pixel Perfect Remakes, but I refuse to buy or play them because they use that ugly ass Arial Narrow UI font from the mobile ports of the games and I can't fucking stand it. There are free pixel-RPG style fonts available online, but they couldn't be assed to put in enough effort to make the "pixel perfect" games look even vaguely like the originals in one of the most omnipresent aspects of the fucking games.

If that's the case then what's the best way to experience most of them?

1. GBA (Dawn of Souls)
2. GBA (Dawn of Souls)
3. haven't played; pixel remaster is the only localized 2D version
4. PSP
5. SNES fan translation (or GBA; it has bonus jobs and an endgame bonus dungeon but worse sound)
6. SNES (or GBA; it has an endgame bonus dungeon but worse sound)
