The Final Fantasy Thread

Has anyone actually tried playing Final Fantasy II on the Famicom? Not the polished, "balanced" versions, but the 8-bit?

It's the most unfair experience I’ve had in a long time, and I’ve played some real garbage.:stress:

It's the only version I've played and I thought it was fine. Crystal Tower and World of Darkness from 3 was harder. I did have maps of all the dungeons though.

My advice, use and abuse the blood sword, it's completely overpowered. I believe there are 2 available.

On a different note, I was just thinking of Part 2, and it occurred to me that Cloud, from Zack's timeline/world, seems to already know who Aeris is even though he shouldn't. That version of himself just got to Midgar. Maybe you could say that the both of them got up to speed behind the scenes since we clearly don't see everything that goes on in that timeline/world, but the entire thing reeks of the typical nonsense you expect from multi-verse "story telling".

They’re betting that most people have never even touched the original, which is a pretty safe bet based on my highly scientific sample size of "people I know in real life."

But for the oldheads, what are they gonna do? Nobody’s interested in some dude raging about continuity errors like he's a cross between Sherlock Holmes and a Reddit moderator.

But will it be turn based?
It's Nomura based.

Restarting the game has made II more tolerable. There's a lot to learn that no guide mentions, like knowing when to hold onto your money and when to blow it, and the importance of training multiple weapons to unlock upgrades more often.

The sages on GameFAQs suggest you give Maria two knives. Not because she can dual wield (this is the 80's Famicom) but because the second boosts her evasion like a shield. (And she looks cooler, too) Most guides will tell you to keep Maria at the back with a bow, but that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. Her HP grows faster than Firion's!

A fleshed out explanation would require autistic levels of reasoning out but that isn’t a different cloud, it’s the one we play that somehow aerith got his consciousness to funnel into that cloud. That’s why she shoves him into the lifestream when sephiroth shows up in the church. How is complicated but it’s basically just a selfish action from aerith to actually get to say goodbye to cloud
