The Final Fantasy Thread

It's normal to be confused by all the terms in 13. I was too, initially. One thing they definitely should have done with the plot was show, not tell.

I can only assume they kept in potions because they're a Final Fantasy staple. Never really bothered me.

No, seriously, if you see this many flaws in 13, don't play the sequels. You won't get any enjoyment out of them if all you're going to expect is disappointment. And yes, it gets even more "nonsensical".

I'm actually go in any games with a open mind. Even if it doesn't go well, there's always something to learn about the game and what my preferences are. I don't know much about the sequels other then basic stuff. Both sequels may be fun, the only way to find out is playing them. I also going to say this. I actually don't hate FF13, I understand the problems, and I did like some aspects of FF13.

For some reason, I actually liked Cait Sith. I mean it's a cat wearing a crown and cape riding on a giant robot moogle. That's pretty neat to me!
I think if they ditched the giant moogle (like they did in later incarnations of the character. IE: Advent Children and Dirge of the Cerberus) Cait Sith would've been a more popular character. (albeit he would've been dissimilar to a character like RED XIII in concept)

As it stands I do like his backstory. In that he's a
robot and being broadcast to a Shinra Spy and he is actually working for the bad guys but slowly comes along to Cloud's side
I thought that was pretty neat and I liked the reincorporation of Reeve from earlier in the game from the Shinra board meetings.

Words can't describe how glad I am right now.

I dunno I'm still not excited about XV. The art design looks way too stereotypical for a JRPG, the characters in terms of design look way too bland. (They all wear black clothing which just reminds me of how a 14 year old would describe his D&D party) and it really just comes off as a little uninspired.

If you ask me if they really want to regain their fanbase and really make a quality game that'll sell. They either need to remake 7 or go way back to roots. Like do what FF9 did and make another fantasy game but make it all Steampunk like FF9. Or make a sci-fi game but focus on storytelling as opposed to fancy graphics and set pieces. As it stands right now it's just leading to becoming Squeenix's most bloated underwhelming franchise.

I totally agree with ya and still can't take XV seriously. It seems like a Japanese Uncharted.

VII will never get a remake unless Square-Enix is right on the precipice of going bankrupt. That's their one-use get-out-of-jail free card when all of the chips are down.

I would love to see IX get a remake rather than a game like it. IX's probably one of my favorites.

On the topic of XV, however, I feel like I'm in the vocal minority that's excited for it with the recent trailer. Yeah, while the main cast all wears fashionable black clothing and looks like a boy band, I'm genuinely hyped for the combat and the gameplay in general. From what I saw in the trailer the game has somewhat of a realistic combat flow to it, not to mention all of the options Noctis has for attacking, defending, and mobility. That thing where he throws his sword then teleports to where it hits looks pretty much like the hottest thing since sliced bread. It doesn't really bother me that the game's been in development for 9 years, because I haven't really been hype for it until after it was changed from Versus XIII to XV. I'm really glad that happened, because XIII is saturated with sequels that nobody wanted. I bet they had like 3+ more sequels for XIII in mind but didn't go with them because they realized that trying to force XIII to be the fan favorite won't work.

If nothing else, Nomura's finished working on XV now and left the game as director to shift his focus to Kingdom Hearts 3. I personally want KH3 more than FFXV.

Yeeaahh, 15 looks extremely generic. I realize that's hypocritical, me being a 13 fan, but whatever.

And 7 is way past needing a remake. Advent Children should have been the first clue.

I probably going to be neutral the day FFXV actually comes out. I'm worried that the years of development might mess it up. Still I have hopes with the gameplay.

Anyway, has anyone here played FFXIII-3? How's the game? I want to try it out to finally played all of them.

I haven't beaten it yet, but it's not bad. The entire game is a time constraint, though, so take from that what you will.

That was one thing that got my eye. Reminded me of Majora's Mask the more I learned about Lighting Returns. I know that only Lighting is playable the whole way.

On the upside, you also have a lot of freedom. For example, if you find one boss too hard, you can face them later after taking on a different one. But yeah, if you do get the game, I highly recommend starting on easy. Time management is crucial.

I'm not sure what to say about the new changes on FFXV's battle system. I hope the demo shows that it works despite Square's odd choices during the past couple of years.

I'm not sure I like hearing that word "simple".
