The Final Fantasy Thread

FF7's second disc tends to crap out in terms of story because the writers were forced to keep upping the ante of plot drama and eventually hit the wall trying.

The first disc is paced pretty well in this regard, setting up the threat to the world and continues to build in tempo till the emotional climax.

The second disc attempts to keep doing this, but after Meteor enters the plot it starts running out of gas because the writers weren't sure how to keep increasing the tempo of the plot without keeping it plausible, hence that weird lull after the prison break where you get the airship, and while the Huge Materia quests and getting Cloud some therapy for his issues were fairly well done, the curiously apathetic followup to you pissing off the Shinra Company (whose reaction to your meddling is entirely reactive and not proactive) tend to kneecap the plot tension.

This does however let the player indulge in a lot of side quests during the plot lulls, and to be fair it makes more sense to do so then as opposed to Disc 3, which makes it pretty clear the planet is gonna be doomed in a few days if you just sit with your thumb up your ass. Disc 2 kept the date of impending Armageddon a bit hazy for this very reason, but it's hard to keep being emotionally invested in it by the same token.

It also doesn't help the final boss literally sits on his ass since achieving his goals in full by the midpoint of Disc 2, whereas their actions kept the plot moving along nicely until that point.

Disk 2 went near fanfic levels and felt all over the place. Some things I kind of liked with the Huge Materia quests, such as Cid treating Shera more nice or defending Fort Condor, which I liked that Mini game more than Golden Saucer's stuff.

I honestly curious how the remake will handle such scenes at the bombing scenario. This was way before certain world events.

I do think FF6 handled the dooms day scenario better.

I could see them focusing a bit more on the collateral damage inflicted by Avalanche and how Barrett and the crew try to justify or cope with it.They don't need to make it gratuitous but I don't think they need to sweep it under the rug either. Nowadays it doesn't seem so taboo to show off terrorist attacks or the cost in media.

I like disk 2 just by virtue of having Cid as the party leader because he was napping during the party meeting.

I wouldn't mind if they gave SOLDIER a bit more to do in the story then serve as 3 random encounters. Maybe they could expand the Great Sephiroth Plan to actually show a Shinra presence in northern cave.

To be fair, there is that moment where Cait Sith calls out AVALANCHE for killing people and causing collateral damage in their quest to fight Shinra. It doesn't receive a lot of attention, but it does seem to say that the fight between AVALANCHE and Shinra isn't so black and white.

It is kind of silly you need a license to wear certain weapons or armor.

What is this, the UK?

Naw. I think VG Cats did a comic mocking this basically saying Dalmascan's / Ivalice in general was so brain dead stupid they'd not use the bathroom w/o a license. It was supposed to represent training in X/Y/Z but IMO was kind of..special af. I should dust off the Zodiac Age on PS4 and quit being special and finish it.

Meh. Was an attempt to show even in '97 not everything was black and white. Now that I'm older I can view the necessity of it, considering how..cheesy most of the shows were.

It kinda gets brushed aside because while AVALANCHE are by no means angels, they at least tried to limit their activity to legitimate targets (the reactors and Shinra military personnel), while Shinra was willing to genocide an entire Plate to kill only a few targets.

Reeve (Cait Sith) is shown to have severe conscience problems from day one and eventually decides no matter how morally grey the protagonists are, Shinra outpaces them in sheer depravity by leaps and miles, and the game never contradicts this.

New FF7 remake trailer showcasing more gameplay and plot, as well as possible story differences, such as Sephiroth mentally torturing Cloud much earlier than his grand debut and Tifa's reservations about AVALANCHE. Also the release date has been set for March 3rd of next year.

Overall it looks pretty cool but I'm not so sure about having Sephiroth appear so early in the game. Part of what made his sudden appearance so memorable was that he was built up in a way; characters mentioned Sephiroth as being someone important but clearly wasn't around anymore, but it was also subtle enough to where it could just be considered world-building rather than foreshadowing. Not to mention it calls into question Cloud's mental state from close to the start where in the original the player gradually realized something wasn't right with him. This is a trailer so I'm sure it won't be indicative of the final game, but even so it is a change I'm not fully onboard with.

Also, ever since the trailer from a month ago, I noticed that the English voice cast sounded different. Cloud and Barrett both sounded totally different from the initial trailer from years ago, but I couldn't be sure with how little the recent trailers (until this one) showed. Lo and behold, the cast has been changed.

For those who don't want to click the link, here's the new cast.

  • Cloud, voiced by Cody Christian (All American, Teen Wolf)
  • Barret, voiced by John Eric Bentley (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Independence Day: Resurgence)
  • Aerith, voiced by Briana White (Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Occupants)
  • Tifa, voiced by Britt Baron (GLOW)
  • Jessie, voiced by Erica Lindbeck (Spider-Man, Persona 5, ThunderCats Roar)
  • Biggs, voiced by Gideon Emery (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Teen Wolf)
  • Wedge, voiced by Matt Jones (Breaking Bad)
  • Sephiroth, voiced by Tyler Hoechlin

This is really interesting to me. Cloud had the same voice actor since 2002, so I wonder why they would suddenly replace him. It's not that important mind you, the new guy sounds good himself, but it's strange since Steve Burton was in the initial trailer.

*Edited. Put wrong Burton initially.

New Tifa looks pretty good. Stocking are a little eh but it's whatever. I would highly suggest going to /v/ and checking out the autistic rage over her titties

For anyone that cares, FFXIV recently had a new trailer for Shadowbringers at E3. This trailer basically makes no sense without understanding the previous story up to at least patch 3.4, and even knowing the story I am having a little hard time following everything. The very basic idea is that we, the Warrior(s) of Light from the source world, have entered a different version of the same world which had heroes so good that they threw the world into chaos because light and darkness coexistence and balance. Now we're trying to rebalance the world.

They've could've done far worse to Tifa's design if they wanted to. /v/ is just full of autistic virgins with rage. The salt that's being generated right now is delightful.

With that out of the way, I'm glad we got to see more info about the remake instead of just seeing the same trailers like last year. It'll be fun to see where they go once they get past Midgar since it's all being divided into parts.

FFVIII is getting a remastered port coming PS4 sometime in 2019
To steal a comment from the video, Square Enix: "hey, you like final fantasy right, want some final fantasy while you wait for final fantasy?"

T.aerith fag
Cant wait to see your shitty waifu die in a cinematic 15 fps

Tifa isn't even THAT much smaller if she is at all. I'm comparing her KH2 model mainly because it has the best resolution and because using her PS1 model is dumb. She maybe lost a cup size at best, the thing is her top was tighter to more accent her breasts in KH2. In the thumbnail for the trailer her top isn't nearly as tight. Her Dissidia model had way more jiggle physics and was tighter to match so she looks bigger despite wearing the same outfit from FF7RE.

It's at best just an illusion from her top not accenting her chest, at "worst" it is a little change so she looks better with these graphics as having Tifa's tits take up too much screen space might be too distracting for obvious reasons. So it is just a design and style choice to make Tifa stand out for more than her cleavage and if you have a stocking fetish she basically improved anyway and I'm autistic because I wrote this post after looking at Tifa's breasts across 3 different games.

Tifa’s boobs don’t look much different from Dissidia save for the black sports bra (which compresses them so they don’t bounce all over the place), but holy shit, these retaards are losing it over a few centimeters’ difference. They’re currently overanalyzing angles and screenshots of her boobs as if her chest is magically shapeshifting in every frame.

Give them an inch, and they’ll take a mile. :story:

The Tifa tit-gate sperg thing is spilling into /pol/, naturally in between a discussion about lgbt ponies and the moralities of fucking Asian women.
Sadly due to the pol id thing you can't bait both sides so it's not very much fun.

I Apparently heard that they might changing up the honey bee inn, and i'm mildly miffed about that cuz it was pretty funny, but I can understand how it wouldn't be able to translate well will less cartoony looking characters.

Virgins with rage, indeed. Square was going for more realism with the remake, so it kinda stands to reason that the lady who trains in martial arts wouldn't actually have much fat to stuff in her tits (it's not common to find a top-tier big-tittied MMA female fighter in the real world). At least that's how I see it. And it's not like she turned totally flat. There's plenty of fan art out there of Tifa if they want to beat their meat to a big-tits version of Tifa. Or they can just wait for some enterprising modder to replace the model with a "fuller" version with the PC version that's sure to come down the line.

Also, Square must be doing something right with the remake if Tifa's tits is the biggest complain spergs have with the game so far.

FFXIV Sperging
Everything you've done in FFXIV has made you the "Warrior of Light" because you are constantly tying to stop Darkness from overtaking the world but you aren't amazingly successful at it - so light and dark remain in balance. The "new" world is actually a world where the "Warriors of Light" were too good so Light completely controls the land and has nearly eradicated all life.

The warriors of light from that world tried to ally with the forces of darkness to try and restore the balance but were unsuccessful primarily because the forces of darkness are dicks. They were then brought to our world by the forces of darkness to try and kill you and they are unsuccessful at that. At the end of the Arc, they are sent back to thier world by Hydalen, who pledges to try and help them restore their world. She sends Minfilia there also. This is alleged to be the shard you are now going to in Shadowbringers and why you're being referred to as a "Warrior of Darkness", because the light is what's destroying that world.
