The Final Fantasy Thread

Not to go all culture war but it just occurred to me we've reached the point where sexualizing women is not socially acceptable (at least if they're main characters), so instead we're sexualizing feminine looking men.

We are now Spartans, only fat.

I don't disagree but I don't think this is a good example of what you're talking about; cloud was sexualized as a trap in 1997.

Back then it was for comedy. Now it's for fanservice.

I wonder if the Honey Bee inn will be skippable/missable like in the original. I kind of hope it is, tbh. It always felt like a waste of time to me.

It was hard to tell because of the graphics then. I interpreted it as more of a British comedy type situation where the dude is obviously a burly man in drag but no one notices because for some reason the British think that's hilarious.

Mmmm I see what you're saying; I wonder if there's canon somewhere to support his trap-ability or his burliness. I had always assumed he was just pretty enough, but I haven't playing the other games so maybe there's more info elsewhere

In that one spergy over-literal retranslation of the game Don Corneo calls him a "burly beauty" when he picks Cloud. Pretty weak but that's as close to evidence as you'll get I guess.

Note I don't consider quotes from some translated weeb product released 15 years after the game as canon.

Sexualize everyone. Make all men just as beautiful as women.

It's like the DOA guy said, who wants to play as ugly people?
Agreed. Final Fantasy has never been a gritty realistic series. I'm willing to accept the sacrifice of being stuck playing as j-pop twinks for the sake of female players if it frees the titty.

My copy of the soundtrack came in today, or rather just eight songs.

Listening to it by it's own, it's not too bad actually. Does have a subtle industrial/electronic vibe in the background, so it's not full on orchestral and I find the rearrangements rather well done. With the synth in the background of the songs, the soundtrack kind of reminds me of Jerry Goldsmith's work on Total Recall and the like.

Can't wait to hear the chase song.

I used to play that soundtrack while I was grinding up my materia levels. Now I’m intrigued.

If anyone wants to listen to good final fantasy music they did a orchestra tour years back when XIV was released while XV was still in progress. Though XV is dead cause they canned the other episodes. And I know I will enjoy VII remake as I did on the playstation years ago.

Head's up, Final Fantasy XV is coming to GamePass for both Xbox One and PC tomorrow.

Additional games will be announced then as well, so maybe we'll get more Final Fantasy titles this month.

I guess this means XV will be my first foray into the series. Was hoping for the PlayStation games first, but I'll bite.

XV is now ready to download for Xbox & PC, and it's the Royal Edition to boot (basically the base game + DLC).

Isn't that the one that's not even finished and never will be?

Technically speaking, it's finished (the actual essential plot is a done deal, this isn't a MGSV left hanging kind of game), they just never released three planned DLC episodes they were intending on. One is basically "super happy ending where everyone lives happily ever after", and I can guess how that one might have gone and I don't really weep for it, but the other two might have been fun.

Do admit I liked Prompto's episode the most, it was basically "Metal Gear Solid 1 as done by the Final Fantasy team"

FFXV is one that still leaves a weird taste in my mouth to this day. Even with all they've released (movie, miniseries, additional DLC, etc), it still doesn't really feel like a full game to me. Don't know what all they changed with the Royal Edition but I have the least desire out of any FF to go back and replay it

The game was incredibly unsatisfying. I wish the core game had some proper background on Luna; you spend so much time trying to get to her, knowing nothing about her, and then she dies immediately. So stupid.
