The Final Fantasy Thread

Oh god don't tell me people are actually praising the voiceover work?

I did see Max Mittleman tweeting about it so I assume he's in it? Hopefully hes the only decent one.

I will never accept anyone named Cody Christian as Cloud Strife lol
The voice work is ok. For people used to the anime club, that makes it fantastic.

I've beaten FF7Remake, and I will preface this by saying that I really enjoyed this game, having played this directly after beating the original:

I wasn't very fond of the time jannies and the final part of the game. Not only did they take away from key moments in the story, but they were SO unnecessary. And the final boss fight felt very out of place too. It also makes me worry a bit about how Part 2 is gonna play out.

With that said, I'm still gonna look forward to Part 2 though, whenever it comes out. I'll just heir to the side of caution.

You know what I can't find the most insane way to break Final Fantasy 12 ZA, there seems to be multiple opinions on what to do in trial mode and exactly when to do it or if to even use trial mode at all.

I want to do a run where everything is just a cakewalk and if i even so much as glance at an enemy it just dies in a single hit.

Does the trick from the original game work where you set your gambits to play the game, then go to that early-game mine and turn the alarms on so enemies spawn forever? You leave the game on all night and when you wake up you're max level and everything is easy.

I just finished the game. Overall, I really liked it. Just some comments.

Pros:
  • The combat system is much better than the one in FFXV
  • Voice acting is really good when I can actually hear it (more on that below)
  • The graphics are obviously really good. Everything looks really pretty
  • Characters are really likable. They really improved on original members of AVALANCHE, specifically Wedge
  • Roche is a great new character and I really wish they used him more
  • Same with Leslie. I really wish they both got to permanently join the team
  • I like the dance scene even if it is cringy and gay af
  • Sephiroth's new theme is fucking awesome as is his boss fight
Cons:
  • Cloud can only attack on his left side during motorcycle missions (aside from the spin attack, but that has to charge) and this is made them much more annoying than they should be
  • Red XIII isn't playable and he just kinda decides to join the gang out of nowhere
  • Lastly, and this is by far my biggest problem with the game, the sound mixing is TERRIBLE, at least in my version. I can barely hear anyone over the background music and ambient noises. It's the worst with Sephiroth. He is way too fucking quiet. I deadass did not hear a damn thing that nigga said until the fucking ending boss fight. Speaking of which...
  • His new voice isn't bad, but it's nowhere near as god-like as it was in Advent Children. He's just not as menacing or cool without it
Nitpicks:
  • The dance scene needs way better music. If I'm gonna be grinding my ass like I'm Beyonce, I expect Beyonce-like music. Not a soft, hip-hop version of elevator music.
  • The game doesn't really explain Sephiroth that much. He just kinda shows up randomly and then fucks off
  • Also, Sephiroth comes off like yandere for Cloud, which I guess he's always sort of been, but it felt much more, I don't know, gay here. I know it's always been like that, but I seriously expecting them to kiss at the end
  • The Turks are underutilized
  • Roche and Leslie feel like missed opportunities and I wish they had been included more in the story. Same with Red XIII
  • WTF was that ending? I'm not mad about it, I'm just...confused and cautiously optimistic. Mostly because AoT has lowered my standards for time-travel shit so much that I can't even fathom FF7 doing anything even remotely worse than what it has done, so I'm just kinda meh about it. I'm not hating on it. I'm not excited about it. I'm just like whatever happens, happens
Conclusion: I can't wait to see Aerith die in the next part.

Pro-level Pullups are a fucking bitch of a minigame, I didn't realize that shit is randomized.

meanwhile I got the dancing minigame in a single go you just need 20 greats at minimum.

Cloud can attack on the right and the left with Circle and Square IIRC. Because I had to hit both sides when getting the Biker Boy Achievement.

You've watched too much AC.

Alright pull up game is actually real easy if you break it down into two parts. You're either going to have to go some form of A,C to B,D in a cross pattern or B,C to D,A in parallel diagonal sets.

Highest the pro level trainer can get is 44 pullups lowest he can go is 40.

Nah, nah, those candles are related to a different, mythical holiday called Kwanzaa. Nobody knows what it's about, but legends say it's only ever celebrated by basketball-americans.

So how is AOE damage calculated?

Sometimes it hits targets in groups and sometimes it fails to hit the same members entirely.

I'm not sure how to feel about this part. On the one hand, this is mostly for people who already know who Sephiroth is, and the magic could never be recaptured. On the other hand, well... Yeah, it's pretty over the top and dumb.

I feel like it would have been received better had it been announced as a reimagining from the start. Which I think like one guy said, but Squeenix leaned on the remake angle hardcore. Sequel would probably be more accurate, but the entire premise, dumb as it may be, wouldn't work from that angle.

I just think they botched his entire character reveal entirely. He shows up at the beginning and doesn't appear until the very end. What was the point of that one scene where they show him walking through the Shinra lobby but only his lower body? That was stupid. The game doesn't even explain why he's a threat.

The game really does expect you to be familiar with these characters.

You have to know Sephiroth is le ebig villain, Aerith's days are numbered, etc

I wouldn't go that far. I think it's fair for even newcomers to infer that Sephiroth burned down Nibelheim (or at least some village), killed someone close to Tifa, killed Cloud's mother, and so forth. Point being, we know he's a bad hombre. I think it's also fair to say they hinted enough what he wanted (i.e. wanting to take back the planet with and for mommy dearest). Even so, I can understand why you feel that way, because it did seem more like the audience (or at least the older audience) and even the characters (Aeris in particular) understand he's a threat, but they didn't really do as a good a job demonstrating why or how.

The whole thing was similar to those stupid "whisper" things too and the characters'/world's "fate". Like, compare the Remake to the original. I would say the point at which it finally dawned on the characters (never mind the audience) that Sephiroth is going to destroy them all is when you see the meteor hovering in the sky in disk 2 as opposed to the characters seeing visions of such as in the Remake. The characters seem to pretty much accept that the meteor is going to be a thing and that somehow if they fight the "whispers" that would change their "fate" so that crap won't happen. Like really? Come on. That sort of writing might have worked fine for a light-hearted game like Chrono Trigger considering Chrono, Marle, and Lucca had no personal stakes to want to save future generations from Lavos, but that doesn't work here. The worse thing though is that the same "whispers" they wanted to resist were shown to have "saved" the characters lives throughout parts of the game. So why the about-face? Reasons apparently.

Edit : I would also add it didn't help whatsoever to have the gang fight and beat Sephiroth this round. What exactly does the audience have to fear in him then for the rest of the series? That he's immortal? We all know that's not going to be the case unless they want things to end badly. Then again, I'm also assuming he's the final villain.
