Replayed ff7, and reviving the thread for a discussion, and I really do not want Aeris to die again (in the same circumstances).

My reasoning is this and it does depend on how much her Remake incarnation knows about the future but she only ran off for the Forgotten City because of the risks posed by the Black Materia and the uncertainty of everything that's just happened or about to happen. She doesn't know what's causing Cloud's mental breakdowns, she doesn't know what the travel time on Meteor is, and so on.

Now, she might know these things. She might know that Meteor will takes weeks to arrive. She might know, in fact seems to definitely know, what's ailing Cloud even if she can't fix it, and in fact her plan to use Holy would work better if she was alive because a big reason the party loses direction in disc 2 is not knowing why she did what she did to begin with.

So it would just be kinda dumb in my opinion. Even in a "preserve the timeline" type way because that's already blown wide open. I'd rather they do something more creative than the same scene but this time with cringe voice acting.

They never gave us more girls like Rikku in any of the future games.

Just more gay boys like Tidus.

Now that you mention it, I can't really think of any later FF games that had a cute plucky tomboy like Rikku. Vanile from FF13 maybe, but that's kind of a stretch. FF14 had a few but they were all side characters. I think Type 0 had one, but I only vaguely even remember that game.

Not really seeing anything that makes me think there's one coming in the new game either.

I want Aerith to live just so we can pile on more REEEing from nostalgiatards and Cloud/Aerith vs Cloud/Tifa shippers for the rest of our lives
That would be funny too. I mean there is something obviously disingenuous about accounts called TifaStrife420 saying "as a fan Square better not deny showing her die in glorious HD because, uh, otherwise the story would be, uh, not dramatic."

Well, she's not just a bartender. She tends bar at the bar she owns. Bit of a difference there.
'Ris is self employed too. I more just find her (meaning Tifa btw) clingy and cloying anyway. I feel like she's been nothing but downgrades since the 1997 game.

I mean, personally I think a flower seller on the street who still lives with her mom and gets endlessly kidnapped is a bit lower on the social stratum than an independent bar owner who solves her problems by punching them in the face until they stop being problems. But yeah, Aeris has a terrible, annoying personality. She's dead, Cloud. Quit simping for her from regrets and get to banging Tifa.

I guess you didn't realize that "clingy" and "cloying" could only be describing Tifa. Especially after I said I find her unlikable in the movie and since Aeris isn't clingy or cloying in anything after 1997. I didn't make it clear, granted, but kind of funny.
I also think the use of the word 'simp' for Aeris is a little amusing. I've never met anyone who dislikes her that isn't a giant Tifa simp. To the point where it's questionable how they can even enjoy the game where Aeris moves so much of the plot and pathos.

And since you thought it was bad for Aeris you should agree with me that Tifa only becoming more clingy and cloying since 1997 is a bad thing because much of this was at best barely true when comparing the two girls in 1997. Now it's just flatly, comically, untrue. They recognized Tifa was a popular waifu so now she doesn't even have the pretense of an existence outside of Cloud with dependence on him as a motivation.

I could, and did, point by point show how all of that is wrong and often more true of your waifu but it was not not necessary so I snipped it.

Guys! Guys! We all know who the real best FF7 waifu is.

I just had to push back at how Aeris gets kidnapped like once, by the main villains as a trade for a little girl's life, and that makes her the designated damsel. And also being clearly the breadwinner for her household and a pillar of her community is "living at home."

And Tifa's not even remotely proactive as a character. Yeah she can settle problems with violence if she wants but that's hardly unique and doesn't extend far beyond that. She also needs to get saved a bunch. Sometimes being saved only by plot armor sparing her from real harm (Nibelheim Incident, Sapphire Weapon)
If she's your waifu because you've lied to yourself about her and the alternative then I think I'm safe in concluded you just want the big ole titties. Which is totally valid.
