The Final Fantasy Thread

Did I saw a male lightning?
Is this even possible?
I mean, Lightning is just a female Cloud, if you really think about it.

Edit: Evidence

Nomura's characters kind of look the same these days then they did 20 years ago. Remember when Cloud and co looked more anime like? Barret had redwood tree trunk feet. The ones from X didn't look bad, either.

Complacency I guess.

Possibly. Stuff like how Sora looks from KH or the Bouncer characters look weird, mainly the later. Final Fantasy X characters looked fine to me IMO. A lot of his early art for FF7 mainly had a chibi style, mainly for concept art.

He did SD art also back in the day such as this. I kind of like his old style and the chibi art.

In hindsight it blows my mind how good FF8 looks compared to 7.
"It needs to be fun before it is pretty."

Anyway, 7 was intended to be an N64 release.
I recommend FFX. The combat is a lot more fun than XII and the story seems actually planned out from start to finish instead of a miscarried mess.
It feels like Tidus' relationship to the final boss just doesn't add up. You're supposed to fly to the Temples after Zanarkand and talk to the Fayth again. Ifrit theorizes that Jecht "was touched by Sin" that night, whatever that means.

The Sphere Grid is a lot more fun than the License Board. Each character in 12 is proficient with certain weapons, but the difference is fractions of seconds between attacks. Licenses truly do not matter.
I got bored playing XII as well
Wasn't too impressed with the supporting cast, either: It seems like Cid and Reddas barely made an impression before dying. Don't get me started on Al-Cid. An insult to the name.

The Fort Condor minigame is probably better than any of the minigames in 7R.

If they're putting that much effort into that, I wonder just how elaborate they're going to make Chocobo breeding.

Let’s not overlook Aerith’s big ass boots.

If there's anything I think Square does well it's ARPGs, so I'm fairly positive SoP will play well. I'm interested in the idea of a retelling of FF1, especially if they have fun and make it really dark. I do wonder if they'll go with any of the lore Dissidia and 012 added to FF1. Garland's armor being a slimmer design reminiscent of his Dissidia look makes me think it's very possible.

Since it had a tag for a PC release on the trailer I'll def check it out as it gets close to launch.

The fact is, if it's a redo of FF1 it's going to be boring as shit.

Bosses were ass, levels were ass, there wasn't a whole lot going on.

It had more monsters compared to Dragon Quest, but FF1 isn't really memorable outside of just being the first one. It was followed by 2 and 3 which were not good and the series started to hit it's stride with 4, 5, and 6.

Because FF8's mechanics were trash.
I really can't fault a game that allows you to get so overpowered right out of the gate by stacking a bunch of bullshit magic, the junction system was incredibly open and allowed players to use it to it's fullest.

It would have been bad if they limited your magic from the get go, only allowing you to unlock the ability to stack more as the game progressed.

I hope they make an achievement for breeding all the colors instead of just breeding the Golden one.
Not to be "that guy", but to breed the Golden one you'd need to breed them all anyhow (Green and Blue for Black, and then Black for Gold).

I would hope that it's expanded out a bit further and at least features more than 2 tracks to race on.

Can't really agree with that. The Seiken Densetsu series was really barely an arpg, and FF12 was a joke. The closest they came to real arpg territory was the dungeon mode in Ehrgeiz.

Square-enix now is really only doing well at arpgs because a bunch of former Capcom staff joined.

I'm interested in a remake of Secret of Evermore. they're doing LoM, they may as well do SoE.
