As I said, we have genetic material from Scandinavian hunter-gatherers. We also have genetic material from other European hunter-gatherers. While some of them gained adaptions for lighter skin, others didn't.

I'd consider Amerindian populations actually a good proxy for non-light skin adapted Europeans.

I suppose that is what we should expect. White skin as we know it today confers some selective advantage in northerly climates but not having it isn't a death sentence and the degree of demelanization in Caucasians is the result of multiple mutations. It would take time for it to become the norm.

But they probably weren't Africans, as you say.

I think there would be a few people(the type that thinks skin color that isn't snow white=Black) but i don't think it would be as jarring because most people will just think they are tan because they spent a lot of time outdoors.Then again people just want any reason to be mad.

That's a bold claim on a complicated subject. I'm not an authority, so I can't make a statement of that type, but what I will say is that despite genetic clustering, there is still a significant amount of overlap between the three racial groups genetically. More to the point, I think the existance of a mitochondrial eve isn't really relevant to the discussion of whether ancestors of modern swedes had brown skin.
