The General Thread

Is it typical just for USA to denote every paragraph in a court clam with numbers?
It looks very annoying and unnatural to me. I work as something which could be equated to civil lawyer in the common law and when we write legal courts papers we denote only the logical separation of the document, like
I. Background information
II. Why those actions are illegal
1...
2...
III. What we want the court to do about it
1...
2..

I played backgammon for the first time today. I lost, of course, and went to read about the game on Wikipedia. Whoever invented/helped develop this game is severely autistic and should have died in infancy.

Backgammon isn’t my cup of tea. :(

So I often find myself being very pessimistic about the state of the society I'm living in. It's easy to become bitter and hateful over how selfish and moronic people are.

But every once in a while, you really do experience how good things can be when people are, without particular cause, kind to you. See, I have problems with chronic pains in my body. My back, my shoulders, my right forearm and hand etc. are affected by chronic pain. I had a surgery on my right shoulder in december last year called biceps tenodesis surgery, and the convalescence is rather lenghty. Only a year after the surgery can you reasonably determine the lasting state of pain and function of your shoulder. I've had to re-evaluate and adjust my training regime and the ergonomics of my everyday life as a result of the state my body is in.

So I found myself wanting to get my hands on an extended palm support for my ergonomic computermouse. Since I need to be extra mindful of my expenses nowadays, I figured I'd contact the manufacturer and ask them if they had a palm support that was damaged and difficult to sell. Perhaps I could buy that palm support for a little less than the standard price? It didn't matter if there were coffee stains and ripped/torn fabric on the palm support, as long as the form factor is as advertised. Maybe I could buy such a palm support for, say, 50-75% of the standard price? The palm support normally goes for about 60$.

When I contacted them, the manufacturer sympathized with my situation, and sent me a perfect palm support for free!

The joy (and slight embarrassment) you feel when you receive unwarranted kindness from a stranger is quite something. You might not be able to change society, but you can change how you interact with others. Be kind, and don't drink too much on the upcoming weekend!
