The gas company is installing new gas lines all throughout the city. Some of these lines are over 100 years old so I guess it's a good thing that they are being replaced. But the construction never seems to end. They already dug a huge trench out front in the summer and had to come in and turn the gas off while they installed something in the basement. Now they are back digging up the street. There's a ton of construction going on in adjacent blocks. There are machines outside tearing up the street and the entire house is shaking. This house is over 100 years old. I kinda fear the stability. Although maybe these old places are better built.
This is an old neighborhood and some of the streets are still brick. There are many brick and slate sidewalks left too. A lot of the curbs are still slate even where they put in cement sidewalk. Although I hate the brick and slate when it rains I kinda feel bad that some of it will be ripped up after sitting there for so long. If you go around the corner half the block is still slate. I never thought much of it as a kid because seeing slate and brick sidewalks were just normal to me. But when I moved away to an area that was constructed more recently I learned to apprecate the historical areas a bit more.
Can't say I like being back here. But I do like looking at the old houses.
I just wish the gas company would finish up already. There's a hole the size of a swimming pool out front.
And it looks like no one bothered to move their cars because you kept hearing guys on megaphones all morning long warning that people's cars were about to be towed. There's signs everywhere that you need to move your damn car. They've been up for a week and by now you should know the drill anyway.
