The GMOD/SFM Splatoon / “SplatSource” Community
REMEMBER: ARCHIVE EVERYTHING! People in this community tend to DELETE EVERYTHING when things go wrong! Even if it’s been up for years and likely abandoned and forgotten, better safe than sorry!
The GMOD/SFM Splatoon community, also known as the “SplatSource” community, is a community that is made up of fans of Splatoon and Garry’s Mod (GMOD) / Source Filmmaker (SFM). If you do not know what any of these three are:
Before starting, I should note that (perhaps unsurprisingly) a lot of people in this community have autism. Here’s a sample of some people admitting to having or noticing a lot of autism in SplatSource:
Using Garry’s Mod or Source Filmmaker (both are on the Source engine, hence the “Source” in SplatSource), people in this community make art / animations. Since the Inklings/Octolings are very customizable, making OCs is a very common activity. As you may expect from the above, it predictably gets a little silly.

As fun as it is to simply watch these groups, a community like this is also bound to have some drama. In fact, if you have prior knowledge of this community, then some of the names above may be familiar. Along with some of the silly stuff shown above, this thread is meant to document the horrifying and funny stories/drama that gave this Splatoon subcommunity the horrible reputation it has.
SplatSource is considered to have started with Alex Spider (who was previously a Team Fortress 2 GMOD animator) when he released a video “Daily Squid Sisters,” being deemed the first SplatSource video ever.
Alex Spider was not alone in SplatSource, as this video inspired a burgeoning Garry’s Mod artist Poool (then Poool157) to upload his own Splatoon GMOD animation, “Big City Slider Station” (according to his Splanimations archive article).
The two would be joined by Inspector Heavy (who formerly went by Pootis Heavy and made Team Fortress 2 Garry’s Mod animations) who started to make Nintendo Garry’s Mod animations and become friends with Alex and Poool. As he started to lean into SplatSource, he would later go by Heavy the Squid. While his account is gone now, some of his videos survive through reuploads, which I have embedded here.
Due to the low quality of the models at the time, work was done to make better models of the various Inkling characters. The Inkling girl was enhanced (A) first, then in the following months the Inkling Boy was also enhanced (A), further followed by other Splatoon characters. While these are screenshots of the SFM Community Workshop, they were also ported to Garry’s Mod; unfortunately, there aren’t any links to or screenshots that I could find of them because of something that happened almost a decade later.
Around the same time, Alex Spider followed up with “Splat Territory” (which featured his OC Inkura, probably the most famous SplatSource OC, relatively) and “Ridiculous Loop of Turf War” (riding the trend of "Vicious Cycle of (TF2 map)” that was popular at the time)
While SplatSource started to make the above people quite popular, SplatSource was still so small it wasn’t even considered a subcommunity, just part of the greater Splatoon community. However, with the release of Splatoon 2 in 2017, things would change for SplatSource. Super Mario 64 blooper YouTuber SMG4 released his video “If Mario was in… Splatoon,” introducing the then-Inkling character Meggy Spletzer (according to this video’s SMG4 Wiki article).
Her inclusion brought many people into SplatSource, as people who wanted to make fanart of her had to use Inkling models and Garry’s Mod. In fact, many people in this community (and some you’ll see in this OP) actually started out as SMG4 fans. At the same time, Splatoon 2 released and (predictably) sold very well, bringing many fans into Splatoon and trickling some into SplatSource. With all of this new blood from many walks of life, surely the future was bright for SplatSource, right?
SplatSource’s first major controversy starts with HeavyTheSquid, who was on the way to 50,000 subscribers at the time (making him no small name).
But as you probably already know, HeavyTheSquid was eventually exposed for his erotic role-play (ERP) with the then 15-year-old Ellie Godelia. It was so infamous that he even got an Encyclopedia Dramatica article.
Being ahead of the curve, Heavy had a Discord server where he interacted with his fans. It’s disputed how Heavy and Ellie met; Doomsday.exe says they met over Discord, but LolAttack says they met over Steam.
Either way, the two met sometime in 2016. Specifically, Ellie says she met Heavy in July, but didn’t start dating him until September (being 15 at the time). In a later stream (about a few months after Heavy left the Internet), Ellie implies that Heavy initiated, and she accepted then because she thought he was “the one.”
Heavy was so in love with Ellie that he talked about wanting to fly out to see her, knowing that she was under 18. Despite knowing her age, their RP quickly turned into ERP.
I’m not sure if this was a DM to Ellie, but embarrassing nonetheless.
Heavy also sent Ellie an unsolicited “nude” (a picture of him in nothing but his socks and underwear).
Heavy and his defenders claimed that this picture was out of context, with one of his defenders Orange Inkling claiming it was a before-surgery photo that Ellie requested to see, while former friend TexanGamer13 said Heavy sent it to Ellie because she was concerned about Heavy’s obesity.
Former friend and defender TexanGamer13 said that Heavy told him he sent the photo to Ellie because she said she was concerned about his health (because he was fat).
Ellie said she kept going because she felt pressured to, in fear of Heavy using his fans to attack her if she split up with him. In the Doomsday.exe video, she claims that Heavy forced her to continue the ERP, but no proof is shown for that claim other than her word.
Ellie’s fears weren’t unfounded, as Heavy tried to send his fans against someone named icerulerking, who initially leaked that Heavy was e-dating the then-16 Ellie Godelia all the way back in June 2017.
Ellie did ultimately break up with Heavy a few months later on August 24, 2017, which is supported by his later apology video uploaded April 8, 2018.
Ellie told PickSurprise she broke up with Heavy for two reasons: a friend “helped her see the world clearer” and a Twitter spat between her friends and Heavy’s friends spilled over to her , which made her realize who she was hanging around.
Heavy did not take kindly to this, and complained to his friends about it. TexanGamer13 recalled that Heavy said Ellie was cheating on him and she was racist, with the real reason for the breakup being that she hates Austrians and thought Heavy had a terrible accent!

Ellie leaked her DMs with Heavy to a small group of friends, asking someone from Team Downfall to make a video. LolAttack makes his video publicly showing evidence of Heavy ERPing with Ellie around November/December 2017. At the time, it was quite controversial, getting mass disliked and taken down by Heavy’s fans.
From LolAttack’s evidence, PickSurprise made his Channel Checker video on Heavy, releasing it on February 18th, 2018 (sadly now private). As PickSurprise (at the time) was not connected specifically to the Splatoon GMOD community (and outside the reach of Heavy’s fans), this is when the topic started to spread past the Splatoon GMOD community.
You might be wondering, “If a 24-year-old was getting with a 15-year-old, why didn’t anyone say anything?” The Splat Family Discord chat (who Heavy implies knew Ellie's real age, based on his response to icerulerking's callout) probably did not want to cause trouble with Ellie's relationship, while the wider public likely did not know their ages until PickSurprise’s video came out.
PickSurprise also revealed Heavy's IRL name (Philipp Reisenbaur) by showing his (now deleted) Facebook account in his Channel Checker video.
In response to PickSurprise’s Channel Checker video, Heavy the Squid made various responses to the video, talking to quite a few people (some of whom reappear in later drama).

It wasn’t just Heavy who responded. Omega the Squid Man (one of Heavy’s friends and biggest defenders) threatened to dox Ellie’s face as a form of revenge for PickSurprise’s video.
HeavyTheSquid later got into a voice call to explain his side of the story, resulting in some of the craziest lines I’ve heard from someone trying to defend themselves. This is a cut-down version of the voice call that was in the “To Catch a Squid” video, as the full original (supposedly on Soundcloud) is gone now.
Eventually, Heavy decided to take a hiatus… for 1 day, and came back on February 28th. Right after this hiatus, he immediately interacted with CuteYoshiLover (then 16) and heart comments defending him.
(To clarify, CuteYoshiLover is actually 16 at this point in time, her birthday is January 1, 2002)

One of Heavy’s fans, AlexAllStar14, even went into PickSurprise’s Discord server to chimp out at him in both text and voice, eventually bringing in his sister Lori to back him up. Unfortunately, the full thing is also private, so only this part seems to exist.
During Heavy’s “hiatus,” MediExcalibur2012 watches PickSurprise’s video and makes a Steam post warning others about Heavy. Omega then sent a scathing Steam message to MediExcalibur2012, unfriending him on Steam and blocking him on Twitter. Omega claimed to have evidence proving that Heavy was innocent, but being blocked meant that MediExcalibur2012 and others like him couldn’t see it and just had to trust his word.
When MediExcalibur2012 saw that Heavy went straight to talking to minors after returning, he started working on the “To Catch a Squid” video.
After it came out, Heavy expectedly responded, saying that the drama is old and it should be left in the past. He then publicly stated that he would delete negative comments, while semi-privately freaking out in his Discord server.

A day after MediExcalibur2012’s video, Heavy uploaded a video on April 8, 2018 titled “My True Apology.” While it did get deleted, there exists a reupload on the Internet Archive.
As other YouTubers started to make videos on the drama, Heavy says in his Discord server that he will leave on May 10. Perhaps an attempt to leave the community as some sort of final apology? Nope, this was just a final middle finger to Ellie for ruining his Internet reputation. He was still adamant that he was innocent and Ellie was the one causing problems.
When this was leaked, more and more people started to turn against Heavy in favor of Ellie.
But the proverbial “final nail in the coffin” for Heavy was Doomsday.exe’s (frankly quite dramatic) exposé being released on May 4, 2018. After this video came out, the situation blows up and goes somewhat viral on the Internet.

The pressure becomes too much, so Heavy makes a final post on his Discord server, and actually deletes his YouTube channel around May 5, 2018 (based on the upload date of “What happened to Heavy The Squid?”).
The most surprising thing is that Heavy’s brother, Vito, had no idea what was going on. After Heavy deleted his account, Vito DMed Doomsday.exe on Discord, offering apologies to Ellie, Heavy’s subscribers, and the greater GMOD Splatoon community on behalf of his brother.
While it would be nice for the story to end here with Heavy leaving the Internet forever, that was not the case. Both PickSurprise and Metokur predicted that he might come back under an alias.
This prediction turned out to be correct, as LolAttack, the guy who originally exposed Heavy the Squid, found him under a new account, called Wild Deadeye.
LolAttack probably found the alias because Heavy didn’t even bother making a new Discord account for Wild Deadeye!
While the Steam account is gone now, someone (likely MediExcalibur2012) managed to archive the Steam page on the Internet Archive (A).
There are many tells that this is Heavy’s alt:
One of the account’s previous Steam names was Emerald Squid. Pretty conspicuous for an alias of someone with a green Inkling self-insert.
Another obvious thing is the account's friends, including MrMadness02, (fellow Splatoon GMOD artist who defended Heavy and was (and actually still is, A) in his Steam group), Awesome BOB Glitchy 4 (an account based off of an SMG4 character, Heavy was a fan of SMG4), fellow Splatoon GMOD creators “Wyvern the Pink Octoling,” Alpha Swan, Brian Jackson II, minor CuteYoshiLover, and his brother Vito.
Deputy Bart / Splat God also confirmed Heavy as Wild Deadeye, also stating that Heavy had changed his name to Cpt. Pootis while MediExcalibur2012 was working on his second video on Heavy. The Cpt. Pootis account also made a review for Garry’s Mod, stating that it is “Very Good to make Gmod Animations.”
Eventually, MediExcalibur2012 released his second video on Heavy the Squid, “Heavy the Squid SNEAKS BACK IN?! - The Destruction and Aftermath.” At this point, according to TexanGamer13, even Omega eventually stopped supporting Heavy.
Heavy had deleted his (new) Discord server and cut everyone he knew online from his life, so after committing Internet suicide, TexanGamer13 pondered if Heavy had actually killed himself in real life.
With his reputation ruined, Heavy the Squid had seemingly left the Internet for good. However, this would start a trend of the SplatSource community being unable to police itself regarding controversy, only really stepping up when bigger communities took notice (after all, Heavy the Squid kept defending himself, only leaving when Doomsday.exe’s video went viral, and even then, he still tried to return).

INTRODUCTION
The original OP was quite frankly very bad, and barely covered two of the most insane events in this community, so I wanted to fix that and add more. The drama about this community is very interesting but it is scattered around the Internet, with some of the coverage being incorrect, taken out of context, or interpreted wrongly. In some existing threads (including the original thread) I’ve already written about this community, so I wanted to have a thread to put it all in one place and fix any mistakes I made in the original posts.
Splatoon is a Japanese third-person shooter published by Nintendo, targeted towards kids and teens. It features the squid-kid combination of Inklings. Starting in the sequel, Splatoon 2 (via its DLC, Octo Expansion), Octolings (octopus-kid combination) were made playable.
Each game has a thread, but they all seem to be focused on the game and not drama around the community.

During Heavy’s “hiatus,” MediExcalibur2012 watches PickSurprise’s video and makes a Steam post warning others about Heavy. Omega then sent a scathing Steam message to MediExcalibur2012, unfriending him on Steam and blocking him on Twitter. Omega claimed to have evidence proving that Heavy was innocent, but being blocked meant that MediExcalibur2012 and others like him couldn’t see it and just had to trust his word.
When MediExcalibur2012 saw that Heavy went straight to talking to minors after returning, he started working on the “To Catch a Squid” video.

When this was leaked, more and more people started to turn against Heavy in favor of Ellie.

The most surprising thing is that Heavy’s brother, Vito, had no idea what was going on. After Heavy deleted his account, Vito DMed Doomsday.exe on Discord, offering apologies to Ellie, Heavy’s subscribers, and the greater GMOD Splatoon community on behalf of his brother.
While it would be nice for the story to end here with Heavy leaving the Internet forever, that was not the case. Both PickSurprise and Metokur predicted that he might come back under an alias.

This prediction turned out to be correct, as LolAttack, the guy who originally exposed Heavy the Squid, found him under a new account, called Wild Deadeye.
LolAttack probably found the alias because Heavy didn’t even bother making a new Discord account for Wild Deadeye!
While the Steam account is gone now, someone (likely MediExcalibur2012) managed to archive the Steam page on the Internet Archive (A).
There are many tells that this is Heavy’s alt:
One of the account’s previous Steam names was Emerald Squid. Pretty conspicuous for an alias of someone with a green Inkling self-insert.
Another obvious thing is the account's friends, including MrMadness02, (fellow Splatoon GMOD artist who defended Heavy and was (and actually still is, A) in his Steam group), Awesome BOB Glitchy 4 (an account based off of an SMG4 character, Heavy was a fan of SMG4), fellow Splatoon GMOD creators “Wyvern the Pink Octoling,” Alpha Swan, Brian Jackson II, minor CuteYoshiLover, and his brother Vito.
Deputy Bart / Splat God also confirmed Heavy as Wild Deadeye, also stating that Heavy had changed his name to Cpt. Pootis while MediExcalibur2012 was working on his second video on Heavy. The Cpt. Pootis account also made a review for Garry’s Mod, stating that it is “Very Good to make Gmod Animations.”
Eventually, MediExcalibur2012 released his second video on Heavy the Squid, “Heavy the Squid SNEAKS BACK IN?! - The Destruction and Aftermath.” At this point, according to TexanGamer13, even Omega eventually stopped supporting Heavy.

Heavy had deleted his (new) Discord server and cut everyone he knew online from his life, so after committing Internet suicide, TexanGamer13 pondered if Heavy had actually killed himself in real life.

With his reputation ruined, Heavy the Squid had seemingly left the Internet for good. However, this would start a trend of the SplatSource community being unable to police itself regarding controversy, only really stepping up when bigger communities took notice (after all, Heavy the Squid kept defending himself, only leaving when Doomsday.exe’s video went viral, and even then, he still tried to return).
