I'll have to watch that. Destroy All Monsters was one of the first Godzilla films I owned on VHS, and I may be biased but I still think it's one of the better Showa films. A great soundtrack too.
This thing turned up in my youtube recommends some time ago. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned in this topic yet. I have no idea what this is from, and the fanfictiony crossover aspect kills my curiosity, but 'Snow Godzilla' looks pretty cool.
I thought the Legendary monsterverse films were huge disappointments.
@Hepativore and
@The Gifted Kid well explained why the 2014 film fell apart. While I agree, to be honest, it was still better than the two films that came after.
I don't really know how to explain it. I realise we're talking about a character and franchise that aren't exactly the pinnacle of profundity. But I think we can look kindly on Gabara, breath-powered flying Godzilla and gorilla aliens as part of a film series that had already gone through several installments, from horror to spectacle, into kiddie fare and senility.
Given Hollywood budgets, Hollywood effects, and Hollywood hype,
especially the 2014 trailers I didn't expect the whole thing to go that way in just
two films. I didn't expect it to turn into such a fucking
cartoon. They went Pacific Rim on it. They went
Atlantic Rim on it.
I could type out an autistic list of complaints, but in a nutshell, the monsterverse is like any other franchise trying to ape the MCUs success. Legendary had more success than most, copying a bunch of superhero films, but from the start they forgot that Godzilla isn't a
fucking superhero.
