The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

Doing "Heisei" versions of Showa stuff seems like a safe crowd-pleasing route. Not that I'm complaining. Maybe we'll get Garasharp from the cancelled movie.
That is a possibility. Considering that Garasharp only served specifically as a proof of concept, which almost made it into production. But it was a character made only as a bonus track for LD only.

I’ve been watching all the old Toho monster movies again and watched Raids Again for the first time in a while and it’s not as bad/boring as a lot of people say it is imo. It’s definitely a stereotypical 50’s B-movie but it’s still a pretty good stereotypical 50’s B-movie

The problem with Raids Again is that the big climactic monster battle that tears a major city apart happens at the midpoint of the film. After that happens...the film takes a nosedive.

By the way, has anyone been watching Godzilla Island on the Godzilla YouTube channel? I've known about the show since I first got on the net in 96 or 97, and it is just now being made available to us English speakers.

Not sure how I feel about the animation style. But I'll probably give it a try.

I'm not a fan of the animation style. It looks similar to the Godzilla Anime Trilogy...that weird flat and lifeless CGI that I'm just not a fan of.

Singular Point had plenty of issues in its writing, but at least it looked cool.

I'll still give the new Gamera a shot. I love Gamera and am glad to have him back.

I kept meaning to come back and post this very opinion. I couldn't stand the anime trilogy and the animation was a pretty big part of that reason. It almost reminds me of early 2000's video game animations. But like you I'll give it a try since we haven't seen any Gamera material in a long time.

The fact Gen Urobuchi made the trilogy was such a heartbreak, since his previous works Psycho Pass and Kamen Rider Gaim were so good.
I am excited for the new Gamera movie, I hope its good. I remember some autist went and upscaled the old movies, but they got nuked. A shame, since they looked amazing.

Just make Bagan canon already.

In fact, make the movie that Super Godzilla was meant to be. If there is a monster that can justify a new Destroy All Monsters type of movie it would be Bagan, seriously needing every monster to work together to defeat him (and maybe we can make the Super Godzilla form canon too at the final fight).

Edit: Ahh yes, almost forgot. They better bring this theme back one way or another

Its simple but it just carries such a powerful presence

Why is this called Godzilla X Kong when its clear that this will probably be them teaming up again?
Might as well make them have a Batman/Superman type dynamic with Godzilla being the "heavy hitter" and Kong the "crafty" one

I thought the American ending was crap and felt that Godzilla should’ve kicked the apes ass. Otherwise it would’ve been my favorite film.

Godzilla pretty much was until Kong suddenly develops eletricity powers (almost like he was meant to be Frankenstein or something)

Since Toho doesn't seem to be loaning any of their other monsters, having an evil variant of Kong's species (as comments are pointing out the skinner arms and fur color) is a bad idea. Something to look forward next year.
I saw some chatter it might be Sadra and whosits

"X" doesn't really specifically mean anything beyond sometimes "multiply"
besides look at all the times you get like Mazinger vs Devilman

Really feels like this is a marketing thing because maybe calling "Godzilla/Kong" wouldnt have the same impact.

Which is funny considering we were close to having a King Kong vs. Franeknstein
