The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

The cloud she made didn't seem as a impressive as Ghidorahs storm which flooded DC. In fact, I can't remember if her cloud actually did anything in the film.

The director has stated that he wants to do a third film that focuses on Godzilla, so I'm betting we will get atleast one more. Since they embraced the silliness, I really hope that they do an alien invasion story like Toho loved to do back in the Showa era.
Gigan

GIGAN

PAY TOHO AND GET GIGAN YOU COWARDS

Do Invasion of the Astro-Monster but with Gigan instead of Ghidorah

PAY TOHO AND BRING IN ANGUIRUS YOU COWARDS

Anguirus shows up and won't back down or surrender to Godzilla. Godzilla is about to kill him. Aliens show up just then and say we need these two to save Planet X from Gigan. They "beat" Gigan, get trapped on Planet X, Gigan goes to earth and roflstomps Mothra. Kong is too busy fucking his Hollow-Hollow Earth harem or the portal is closed and Mothra is dead so Kong can't come help. Earth is at Gigan's mercy. Gigan has no mercy. Monarch has to get Godzilla and Anguirus back to earth to save humanity

NO OTHER MONSTERS

Do it you cowards

I can't really explain why, but I hate GxK and everything it stands for. These movies are gotten worse and worse since the 2014 Godzilla and now they've degenerated into mindless entertainment for babies. I guess it's great for Legendary. Now that the MCU is dead they can sweep up that audience with minimal effort.

As long as the soundtrack gets to include kino versions of Godzilla's theme then I'm sold.

Also, the Controller of Planet X has to yell, "Gigan, rise!" when sending Gigan to Earth.

I just watched it an hour ago. It was decent, but just not great. I dunno, maybe I still have the taste of Minus One in my mouth. The human scenes are better but are also very unnecessary, but the scenes with the monsters were boss. It's just yet another Hollywood blockbuster that's no different from the likes of Bayformers.

Hubby and I are in the theater for the second showing here soon, the first showing of the day is apparently almost sold out. The lady at the counter is surprised that's a thing for a Monday (albeit it's the day after Easter, some folks have a day off today). Really is cool to know GxK is doing pretty good. Had no doubt it would, people just really want to watch a monster brawl.

Has any journalist whined about it not being political yet? I want a good laugh.

Saw it. It was decent enough. Bit of crossposting, but I recall reading a rumor a few years back if the Gundam movie does get made soon, they'd want to connect it to Legendary's Monsterverse.

Legendary Entertainment and Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) are teaming for a live-action Gundam movie at Netflix.

Details related to the project are in short supply at this time, though we do know that Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Runaways, Paper Girls, Saga) is writing the script and serves as an executive producer. The live-action adaptation of the uber-popular anime series will stream on Netflix globally except in China where Legendary will distribute the film. Cale Boyter is overseeing the project for Legendary and the original Gundam studio, Sunrise. Jason Young, who directed the original Gundam film at Netflix, will also serve as an overseer. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise, Gundam is often described as a space opera depicting a battle waged between massive mechs and armies of space colonies fighting for independence from Earth. Packed with epic action and compelling characters, Gundam has remained a favorite of the anime community for generations.

Seeing as it's early days for this announcement, it has yet to be confirmed in Vogt-Roberts' film will take place in the Universal Century (the same timeline the original Gundam anime is set in). Some already suspect that Gundam could take place in Legendary's Monsterverse. Personally, I think that's a bit of a stretch, but stranger things have happened. After all, giant mechs would be the perfect accompaniment to titanic kaiju, no? Can't you just imagine Godzilla going toe-to-toe with a Gundam? That would be epic AF!

We'll be sure to bring you more details as this high-profile project comes together.

I have not gone into the Rotten Tomato reviews from the critics since its score of critics vs. audience is much like KOTM where the former hated it (56%) but the latter loved it (92%).

Just watched it. Its a solid "meh" for me. I think I'm becoming a joyless faggot or something, because I can't really enjoy this movie.

Its probably the most generic looking movie I have seen in my live, its had only close shot and boring angles all time. Its like they don't want you to see everything in done in green screen.

The sound track had no energy. And the fights... pretty meh. And I can't ever see Rio de Janeiro getting complete wrecked. Now the lace have ever more monkeys running around, thanks Kong.

Not a woke movie but it is diverse and inclusive, now that I think about it. Deaf character/actress and even a fair amount of gender balance among the monsters.

Kong's story is highly problematic and has colonialist tropes:
He discovers a primitive monke tribe, instantly learns their ways and proves himself the best of the bunch, rights all their societal wrongs and moves their civilization forward, and establishes himself as the new king. Feels like an old pulp story where Whitey McHero becomes chief of the lost ooga booga people.

Kong's story is highly problematic and has colonialist tropes:
Which is absolutely based since it pretty much reveals Godzilla got attacked by a bunch of apes being complete niggers and he put them in their place.

If nothing else, I'm just glad Kong has his happy ending. Didn't expect to feel for him, and apparently neither did the director since he agreed to continue his story despite only making GvK to settle a playground fight.

I just saw GXK and I wanted to comment while it was still fresh. I honestly went in with no real expectations, I haven't been on this board since the "spoilers" started leaking. There is no Godzilla movie I HATE, just some that I watch less often or recommend. I did enjoy this movie, I don't think it is fair to compare it to Minus One (which people will do), but I think a lot of fans are pretty cool about judging them independently.

Anyway I really enjoyed myself so here's my autistic opinions:
- I'm not usually a Kong fan outside of Godzila but I liked him in this movie
- Kong's Brotherhood of Steel arm was actually kinda tight
- I thought I would hate Shimo's design from the toy leak, but he looked WAY better than expected and I didn't hate it. I do kinda think his face looks like he has FAS though.
- Small monkey went in a direction I didn't seem coming
- I thought I would hate the pink fins because I think the promos made it look shitty (Even though 2000 is one of my all time fav looks) but they looked way better on screen, even when he wasn't blasting, so that's cool.
- MOTHRA, I was genuinely surprised and happy
- Skar King is gay and a dumb monkey
- Human plot was actually not terrible, I didn't even mind the black dudes cheesy Marvel-esque comments. I don't remember any of their names.
- Hollow Earth is even hollow-er?
- Shimo is huge and powerful, but retarded. Kong's puppy
- On-screen human casualties, which I like because Legendary makes Godzilla so docile when I prefer he be more Neutral as "Earth's Titan Tard Wrangler"
- No Godzilla theme song that I remember? Mostly 80s hits
- Godzilla runs lol

I'll end the sperging there. I have no one to rant to about this IRL. Even though I thought some things were a little silly, I had a great time. I feel like if you go in expecting a dumb fun monster movie, and are a fan of ALL Godzilla films, you will like this.

It seems that some last minute changes were made to GxK, in response to test screening feedback...

Mothra's role was originally filled by an donut steele named "Fosfera", but the audience hated it so they paid Toho to use Mothra again. Might explain why Mothra shows up out of nowhere for no raisin and doesn't do much.

I thought KotM didn't leave much for sequels, and then I thought GvK didn't leave much for sequels. I'm sure they can come up with something. Do one on Planet X.
I want to see a Pacific rim crossover where Godzilla pushes everyone's shit in.

Frankly if that falls through just do some super robot wars crossover insanity like evangelion. You could sell Anything with Godzilla to me even ultraman.

I plan on seeing GxK this week so I finally watched that Apple Godzilla series, Monarch: Legacy of NTR.

Who the fuck thought a TV series about Godzilla was the proper vehicle to explore cheating, NTR, and cuckoldry. Seriously, take all of the MonsterVerse films, strip 99% of the actual monster stuff, and times the human drama by 100 and you get the Monarch series. It's hilariously bad.

I got a silly thought, bear with me.

The troll Bernie said was "GhidoraStan666" or whatever the username is is actually Kevin's consciousness in cyberspace getting on his nerves over thwarting him in Hong Kong. He can't really do anything as-is, but then here comes Gigan and his cyber body has Internet connection, so Kevin overrides his previous orders and tells him to do his bidding at getting revenge. Godzilla doesn't know he's now fighting a minion of Ghidora's even when Kevin attempts to take control, but Gigan still has a will and is trying to kick Kevin out of his system.

The human element will have some fucking nerd see Gigan is under attack by a worse enemy, thinks he's just misunderstood and develops a vaccine/anti-virus to inject into Gigan's cybernetics to help weaken Ghidora enough for Gigan to kick him out. Godzilla still kicks his ass but doesn't kill him, allowing Gigan to flee back into space. Godzilla celebrates by eating a whale some Japanese whalers have snagged because he's a hungry cranky old man.

At the end, we cut back to Gigan making it back home to his true overlords, the Xiliens, who look at his footage and go "Well what have we here?"

Bam. Xilien invasion teased.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that Gigan's mission was to collect samples on his reconnaissance, so he'll have at least Godzilla's DNA on him, teasing SpaceGodzilla and/or Biollante.

R&R, am I just being a retard thinking too much about this?

Thank you for confirming I made the right choice in ignoring it
