The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

Anguirus legitimately looks like a combination of all of his abandoned concept art.

And from what little we saw of the big G his face reminded me of his dropped final wars design too. If all the kaiju were redesigned based on old concept art from the other eras that never saw the light of day then that's really cool!
Also if Gabara can return then my boi Orga needs a comeback too dammit!

Whoa, this

is Gabara??? Holy shit!

I have a soft spot for Gabara, but I didn't expect this.

I have a soft spot for Gabara, but I didn't expect this.

It seems like they are moving away from the humanoid bodies that the "man in suit" style gives the monsters and they are being a bit more animal like with the designs.

So far, Rodan and Anguirus look great because of it, and I also have to give them props for Gabara here (which from what I can tell, it isn't confirmed, but the way people are talking, its all but officially stated that its him).

The original Gabara had one of my least favorite designs of the classic series. The Blue Cat/Reptile/Ogre look probably looked and sounded better conceptually than it did in execution. But with the freedom of animation, it looks like they've been able to expand on the design and help to truly give him a look to be proud of. (Again, assuming that this is Gabara).

My brother said "Isn't that Baragon?" and it has a similar color-scheme to how he looks in Frankenstein vs Baragon.

But he's coming around to the thought of it being Gabara. I do hope it is Gabara, though, it'd be wonderful to see him in action again after so many years.

And I know Rodan is like a mutated/giant pterosaur, but he kinda looks unimaginative compared to the others. Though he looks closer to his Fire Rodan design, so I dunno, will need to see him more.

I recently watched Shin Godzilla and it is honestly a really great movie, that blew my expectations. You'd think a modern Godzilla movie that focuses more on the humans would be not too interesting, but somehow I was more intrigued with the political drama alongside the monster stuff because it shows how fucked bureaucracy is at handling unexpected situations and this could show for the Japanese Government and could easily apply to other forms of government that have a bureaucratic system.

The design of Godzilla is honestly quite haunting and probably one of the more creepy godzilla designs out there with the blood spewing from it, and how it looks like it's in constant pain.

The climax was also surprising because of the way they solved the problem was unique and showed the strength of humanity against a common enemy. Though the tail stuff makes me question things. I honestly don't think it can work with a sequel or any other continuation because Shin Godzilla is perfect as is.

It also has some great soundtracks in it like this piece which really set how powerless and hopeless humanity is in the scene that it played.

Any Heisei Gamera fans here? The trilogy is being remastered in 4k HDR and released in Japanese theaters tomorrow. The trailer quality looks really good, I'll have to check it out if it comes to any streaming services here in the states.

It'd be nice if this came to the states too. I LOVE the Gamera trilogy.

Shin Godzilla has become one of my favorite Godzilla movies, and that's saying a lot considering how big a fan I am of this stuff, lol.

Not ideal since with big movies like that, it'd be nice to see it in a theater first, but I'll take it!

The Heisei Gamera Trilogy are some of my all-time favorite Kaiju movies.

Hopefully the remasters eventually come to the States. I'd totally buy them.

did they shrink Godzillia down for the fight against King Kong?

either that is the world's largest aircraft carrier or I got to see an eye doctor.
No, apparently Kong just had a huge growth spurt. We still don't have an official height and weight for Kong for GvK, all we know is he was an adolescent in Kong: Skull Island, but he's now an adult but might still be growing (since Godzilla still grew between 2014 and 2019, which might be from radiation for all we know).
