The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

At least Mechagodzilla is going to be in this movie.

City on the Edge of Battle really dropped the ball there, and they had MechaG all over the poster and everything.
It was a cool concept but by their own explanation of the Mechagodzilla nanometal it could easily have created a kaiju Mechagodzilla to fight Godzilla either at the humans' and 'friendly' aliens command, or when it ran amok... and okay maybe do something new other than a kaiju fight but what they came up with instead of a kaiju fight was uninspired and boring.

The soundtrack to Godzilla Vs. Kong started to drop.

We have Godzilla's theme and Kong's.

Godzilla's theme sounds straight up evil and unsettling, and I like it, but it also sounds like its trying to be the Ifukube theme without being the Ifukube theme, so its a little distracting.

Kong's theme seems to capture the character's entire nature and history.

It's an interesting take when you consider it as MechaGodzilla's theme, fits in with what you're saying.

Also Pensacola, Florida, eh? Is that the city we see in the beginning of the trailer?

Kong's theme is longer (interesting) which suggests it's the setting to Skull Island itself than Kong's leitmotif (I don't remember what it was in the Skull Island soundtrack), and damn it gets melancholic. Think these tracks are the tracks we're going to be hearing within the first twenty minutes of the film.

EDIT: Ooooh that's lit. I'm feeling optimistic about GvK's soundtrack after that.

lol with how much they're pumping this movie up, they better not fuck it up. That being said, they should have used Ifukube theme. For over half a century now, it's been the clearest indicator that shit is about to go down in a Godzilla movie.

No buys on that Godzilla theme

It's Ifukube's theme with some of the notes taken out then some low rumbling not music sounds like every shit OST ever since Batman Begins (fack youuuuu Hans Zimmer you go to hell and you die!) then I stopped listening to it

Just use Ifukube's theme for Godzilla since it's perfect and all

If Kong wins again, the amount of salt from the Godzilla fans will be amazing, lol.

That said, I'm going to take this moment to defend the 1962 film's choice to have Kong go over.

Back then, Godzilla was NOT as big of a name as Kong, not even close. Toho had the Kong Vs. Frankenstein script thrown at them, and they put Godzilla in there as he was their best option. But even with the success of the 1954 original, Godzilla wasn't that much bigger than say Rodan or Mothra (whose initial film was also a massive success).

Kong was an icon as every rerelease of the original film made more money than the last run. It was a classic film that audiences flocked too all around the world, and Kong was THE trendsetter. It was actually the success of KKVG that led to Godzilla becoming the world wide franchise player he would become. Without Kong's involvement, there would probably be no Godzilla series to speak of.

So going into the 62 film, there was never any doubt on the part of the film makers that Kong would win. He was the bigger name and Toho was just happy to get him. The fact that Godzilla lost in a way that gave him an out was miraculous.

I'd call that a spoiler but I feel like it's pretty clear to anyone with foreknowledge that that's going to be the twist and honestly I'm okay with that because I love mechagodzilla and vs movies are dumb anyway because I think teamups are more fun anyway

And because of that pro wrestling logic dictates big G gets his win back

Is Kong going to return the favor or is he going to pull a "That doesn't work for me brother" or even better, "Lose his smile?" and Godzilla gets stuck having to work with Mechagodzilla as a replacement and they steal the show anyway without Kong?

I watch too much wrestling and monster stuff lol.
