Also, isn't macOS kernel open source? I'm not a lawyer, and I know Apple license isn't GPL-compatible, but surely you can get away with at least using it as a reference, without needing to fully reverse engineer everything?

Darwin doesn't contain any of Apple's "special sauce" including things like hardware drivers, Metal, etc.
 
Dear diary, day 24.

Hope is slowly fading with every refresh. Never more than now I wish I never knew about the tale of byuu, and never more have I craved the unaffordable closure, but alas have I grown accustomed to the idea of these events becoming mythos more than reality. Perhaps we shall never find the last piece of the puzzle, nor ease the hunger for ultimate knowledge. The end is Near.

@AnOminous, is it really legal to withhold government records from what must be countless different countries on something as critical as overseas deaths on the say-so of one "outraged" US citizen or family? That seems rather insane, considering how many other potential parties that'd inconvenience. If so, would such an action be vulnerable to a FOIA request, as speculated?
