The whole gun control debate is sleight of hand.
You are being conditioned into thinking that the government is responsible for and capable of preventing gun crime beyond actually prosecuting violent offenders. They neither responsible nor capable. Framing the debate around the government is trap when the issues at hand stem from social rot and the dissolution of family and community. The Government is not community, they are a cancerous growth to it. It has utility, but do not confuse the parasite for the host.
Both “The government should do more.” and “The government should do less” are sentiments intended to permanently link the concept of your personal safety with the government. It is not an accurate or useful framework.
Secondly, the hyper focus on gun violence in the US is welcomed by all politicians as a way to distract you from the human lives that the US government is directly responsible for taking. They are happy to see us spend our political energy debating about lives the the government could save, even though they in reality could never actually save them, rather then holding them accountable for the lives they directly take, and the misery they directly generate both abroad and at home.
Put another way, Joseph R. Biden could use his magical mind powers to disintegrate every firearm on US soil and, because of the disastrous Aghanistan withdrawal and poorly managed military aid, he would still be directly responsible for more gun deaths in conflict zones with US government marked guns than he would have “prevented” in America by an enormous margin.
Orders of magnitude more Middle Eastern civilians have died as a result of the War on Terror than have died in the past 20 years in the US due to gun violence.
We experience a fraction of the violence that we export, and politicians love the gun control debate because it keeps them from being held accountable for it.
