I've heard college instructors calling that the catch 22 for students - employers want people with experience, but students need to get the job in order to get experience.

The only thing I can suggest is to get a hobby in the tech field, turn it into a small business (even if it's not profitable) and use that as padding on your resume.

It's what I did.

The only thing I can suggest is do a lot of networking with people in a similar job position, and their supervisors in particular. That alone seems to get employers to look at you.

The problem there is I don't really know anybody who I can network with.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time for that - don't want to get into details but because my dad isn't working right now, the money situation is not good. I need a good paying job to help keep the family afloat.

The fact he is being a colossal asshole to me all the time by saying how worthless my degree is becoming by the day because I can't magically make people want to hire me also is rapidly pushing my tolerance of his bullshit.

Try making a punchy resume.

Doublepost-quoting or whatever, I know, but I thought it would be amusing to mention how this...actually may have been my ticket to some kind of employment the very next day. Nothing glamorous - seasonal backroom work at the local Target - but it turned out the HR manager at the store happened to be an old family friend, and she mentioned having instantly remembered me after seeing my name on the online application. I'd like to think she had a big hand in how I got the job offer within a week of putting in the application, but that may be just my mindset after nearly five months of employers never responding to my countless resume submissions finally ending.

Certainly will be doing that when I can, since now that I have employment for the moment, my dad will hopefully back off on being way too pushy in certain ways related to making my resume look appealing.

It is rather uncanny how that works. It almost borders on nepotism, but it gets you a job.

Just be aware that those kinds of relations can potentially set up difficult job expectations from those people, so don't think about slacking off just because you got through the selection process.

Got a contract position for a month as a camera operator with another guy and we both were told when we showed up that the camera was actually just a webcam on a laptop. We both felt lied to but whatever the job seemed easy and at least I could put it down as camera operator on my resume.

A month later after calling and emailing because I didn't receive a paycheck I finally get a call to pick up my late paycheck and as I go to pick it up I get a text from the other guy asking if I got my paycheck because his was super late too.

Then I have to email them a few days later an excel sheet of the parking reimbursements I already put on their online timesheet forms that were for some reason absent from the check I received because my account for their timesheet was disabled because I have long been finished with the job.

A heavily federally regulated facility I used to work for had a 14 million dollar loss and no one had any idea where the money went. My office found out because they forgot one of us was still in the meeting hall when they started discussing it with the up-tops. Good job guys.

> Be me
> Have a day at home today
> Decide to sleep in
> Always a mistake
> 8am, co-worker is flipping out on chat
> Event is fucked, nobody can connect to anyone
> Co-worker has tried "everything" - multiple connections, virtual video bridge, etc...
> Swears it's clients fault
> Jump on virtual video bridge, connect to event immediately, everything is fine
> Guy on event is talking like this event is already happening
> Noticed event started at 6am
> Noticed it's 8am
> Why did co-worker lie about everything?
> Fuck it, it's my day at home
> Shitpost on kiwifarms.

The part-time office job I started awhile back gave me about 20 extra hours a week starting a month ago. Over the past 2-3 weeks, they've had me sit up front because the receptionist quit. I'm now doing my job (basically data entry/admin assistant stuff, along with some low level editing/proofreading and very rarely graphic design) and dealing directly with clients as the receptionist, and I have a feeling that they aren't going to hire a new one because they're cheap and shady.

I definitely like having more hours, but I don't like that my job was pretty much changed against my will, especially since I fucking hate dealing with the general public. Our clients are quite possibly some of the most ignorant people I have ever encountered, and I used to work retail.

So, did I tell you guys about the time I tried to work for a cleaning agency?

To make a long story short (or somethin')- I was hired by this company to clean. My first task was to clean summer homes because the school year was about to start up. So there I was, fully prepared to work an 8 hour shift when one of the people from the main office comes in and says "We're going to transfer you over to another place" not one hour into my job.

"Best" part? They couldn't find me jack shit because people were finishing up. So here I am, after trying to get work for half a year, and all I got to show for it is one measly hour and one room in some house to show for it. Never even got the check for said hour too (out of my own volition, their offices are more than a 2-hour trip via bus from where I live).

Well here's another one I wound up mentioning in person so I'll share it here.

I had a client when I was writing loans for small corps, ask me to put the money in a personal account. That's a no no to start, but before I could even say we don't do that.... he mentioned because the company owes the IRS. So he went from no to I over heard your plans to defraud the gov.

And that's bad because..?
