The How to Train Your Dragon live action movie - Black vikings, nuff said

I honestly find it fascinating that HTTYD brought back previous staff to work on it while hardly any of the Disney remakes did. It kinda feels like Dean DeBlois really didn't want his baby to get handled by anyone else, which is probably what should be happening more often than not. Same with John Powell and the soundtrack.

Not saying that's a good thing, but it probably helps to cushion the blow better.

Either bring back the old staff and let them do their thing or bring in a new team to bring their own vision to it (although obviously keep an eye on it to be sure it isn't a shit vision) if you absolutely have to do these live action remakes. Disney does a weird middle ground where they have all new people who talk about how they're keeping it close to the source material, except when the movie comes out they at times keep it weirdly close to the source material, usually to its detriment because it's done worse and without the soul, and then change other random things completely for the worse, like making Scar less camp and sarcastic.

I keep hearing that if Dreamworks wanted to touch this franchise again they could've done a more faithful adaptation of the books. I'm sure they'd find a way to fuck it up, but it would've at least been more original than this.

I'll watch this once I can get it for free 🏴‍☠️ and then I'll come back with my thoughts.

I might be biased because I don't like the sequels and they were solo directed by DeBlois, but the first movie's not just his baby. It was co-directed by both him and Chris Sanders and had some input from others in the production, and I don't think it would've been nearly as successful if DeBlois didn't have Sanders co-directing with him. Every HTTYD movie he releases after the first one only makes me think less of him.

"Vikings got around" is such a lame excuse for Blackstrid. At least Synthetic Man is not afraid to call out the race-swapping even if he's being edgy.

I don't mind Possum as background noise, but every once in a while he says a take so retarded it makes me reconsider watching him. At least Nostalgia Critic said "I don't care about the race swapping" and moved on, but this nigger spent half of his review making the lamest excuses as to why making an established blonde character mixed race is acceptable. Even if we were to accept that Viking societies had the demographics of modern America (they didn't), it still doesn't change the fact that Astrid is white in the original.

That said, there are two nonwhite characters in the sequels, Drago in the second movie and some random Asian antagonist in the third. It'd be pretty amusing if DeBlois is using Blackstrid as a cover for making the only two nonwhites in the originals villains.
