Have her reflect ellie in that she has a unique mutation of the infection that leaves her with more self awareness and memories while also boosting her physical capabilities to plot necessary levels, and her slow descent into fullblown inhuman madness could be used as a direct metaphor for ellie and her own loss of humanity when seeking revenge.

Hell, you could go a step further and have her be part of a growing faction of smart/self aware zombies who replace the dumbass fundies as the "main enemy group" due to the fact they are set to replace uninfected humanity and the whole concept of "evolved infected who arise after the apocalypse and become the dominant species" is shit that predates the Romero movies and goes right back to I am Legend from the fifties.

Ironically in such a violent and desperate place you'd be way more willing to let shit slide in the event you made it out of somewhere alive since you're getting it from all angles. Abby's plot especially rings hollow because, as the viewer, we are supposed to believe Abby either knew nothing about what her father was doing, or didn't care to find out, despite her apparently having a soft spot for children. That is why everyone seems so upset about the plot development: it's just bad writing. In a world of violence, these vendettas and blood feuds would be rarer than you'd think or they'd resolve themselves very fast.

And then the larger theme of this going on forever, no it wouldn't. The cycle only repeats at the end with a hamfisted twist, in the real world even if this were to occur this would just die with Abby since (according to the leak) her boyfriend is dead and so is everyone else. Avenging a parent or child I can see, but in this world going out in the wild to track down people who killed your friends seems unrealistic in a game that seems to love realism. Especially if we are going with the even larger theme that everyone here is psychologically damaged so would be way more at peace with people close to them dying suddenly. Like everyone else I'm comparing this to shit like The Road and 28 Days Later and dozens of other movies this one emulates.
It just ends up like The Walking Dead where they just want to airdrop in these communities and settlements so they have an area to tell some gay relationship drama.
