Feels a bit night and day with the Harley Quinn animated series where the UK adverts are desperately trying to Birds of Prey it, but the clips used are about people mocking her for being the Joker's Girlfriend, and even the Joker himself saying she belongs by his side.

Mind, that's because Paul Dini's involved and he created her.

IMO it would have been much, much more interesting (a bit cliche but this franchise was never original lol) and controversial if Joel got killed by Ellie’s mother. I just ran a FaceApp of Kaitlyn Dever to look like a woman in her late 40s and the look really sells that “sympathetic antagonist” vibe whilst retaining Ellie’s appearance.

It just checks out plot-wise, because Joel killed like half of fireflies‘ Utah‘s fighting force (which was in a sense her surrogate family, including her friend (or lover?) Marlene.) It also would have been an emotional 🎢 for Ellie if her own surrogate parent is killed by her real parent as an act of revenge. There would also be a lot of lore involved, given that Ellie’s mother’s role was instrumental in establishing the fireflies. (Not to mention the moral dichotomy of sacrificing one person to save the many. For all you know, Ellie’s mum would have sacrificed her own flesh and blood for that cure, which is all the more disturbing and thematic for TLOU.)

That game's redeeming factor was the '90s nostalgia and the lived-in feel of the house. Its biggest appeal was that messy living room with the big CRT and VHS tapes labeled in permanent marker. Upstairs, the woke sister's SNES carts were scattered all over the place instead of organized. It reminded me of childhood. The attention to detail in how people never put anything back was nice.

Too bad the ending is garbage. You're supposed to clap for your lesbian little sis as she runs off to make a huge mistake with an older AWOL PoC who may be facing serious charges. That coupled with what I'm reading about Life is Strange suggests a lot of narcissism and selfishness in these genderqueer narratives. To hell with anybody who might have ever cared about you. They probably would have voted Trump anyway.

Whoa, wait, no, I'm sorry, I've only kept up with this thread sporadically (especially after it really took off) so I might be late to the party on this one... But are you telling me that Anita Sarkeesian was (possibly) consulted for this game?

I googled it just now, and NaughtyDog definitely isn't denying it- they're insisting that the game is "adamantly progressive" too, which certainly implies that they're marching to the beat of Anita's drum.

This article suggests that Druckman's definitely been influenced by her:

We do not need Anita Sarkeesian getting any sort of positive feedback in the video game world.

Developers need to see her and her political shit as the touch of death for a video game and avoid her accordingly.

The idea of returning to a world where Anita Sarkeesian is still a big name who is given anything even vaguely resembling respect makes my head hurt.

Yeah, I disagree completely as well. Also where do you get the idea that 'true Weebs' hate VNs? That isn't true at all. Weebs were freaking the fuck out when censorship of Sony occurred early on in the PS4. You had a lot of VN and weeb game publishers really fucking bitching and being upset at Sony's extraordinarily strict censorship policy, where some said they basically had to remake the game to get it past Sony's policies on the PS4. Which was hard because a lot of it was re-drawing art or cutting scenes, not just simply adding bars of light. In the bad days, you had to go through dialogue changes and shit and it wasn't worth the time or the effort to do so.

The publishers and developers THEMSELVES abandoned PS4 as a platform because it was simply becoming too costly to put their games there. This was around the time Steam had its 'adult content' controversy because everyone was in a panic and a bunch of shit got pushed on there (of which I think you can buy basically un-patched eroge from Steam now and basically Hentai games are there, I feel like Steam cared about this for all of 5 minutes). And Nintendo was like 'we honestly dngaf'. That's why all the weebs went there, because the developers went there when they didn't have to go through Sony's awful policies.

Trials of Mana is on every platform, PC, PS4 and Switch. Ys 9 and Trials have always been more heavily PC favored. There are really no more exclusively PS4 focused weeb titles with maybe some extremely popular exceptions that they use money to secure and overlook censorship wise, ala Persona. Which has broad appeal besides weebs.

Anna's dead by the first game. She apparently didn't make it long after Ellie was born and died from complications in childbirth.
