My notes from the episode:
In the game, Ellie is the one who's gung-ho about going and hunting down the WLF group. In the show, Dina is the one who saw everyone and everything and she relays all this info to the Potato and pushes her to go take revenge.
Show Tommy is level headed and logical and the voice of reason and wow why should they travel to seattle to take petty revenge what's done is done let's let bygones be bygons ha ha. He remains in Jackson instead of leaving ahead of Ellie and Dina, I get the feeling they're going to combine his arc in the show with Jesse and have him show up some point after the theatre.
Bigot sandwiches is the only person who wants to take vengeance and he's responsible for inspiring Ellie to begin her quest for violent revenge. This takes place at a council meeting where they democratically vote on whether or not they send a party to go out and, I quote, "execute the individuals responsible for Joel's death," and they juxtapose Bigot Sandwiches' little speech about vengeance by having a humble Asian man speak about mercy and forgiveness and he explicitly mentions how he's not a christian.
They make a big point about how Ellie is being selfish and reckless for wanting to go to seattle and wow can't everybody just calm down, there's bigger problems in the world, why's this such a big deal, like yeah, Joel's dead, but people die, amirite.
Bigot sandwiches is the one who enables dina and ellie to leave jackson and he's very vocally sympathetic to their cause. that's how you know that ellie's desire for revenge is not honourable or justified, because a homophobic nazi christian white guy is so supportive of her.
I was surprised they showed the seraphites so early, and that they immediately portrayed them so sympathetically and the WLF as being heinous murderers.
I mean it's not the first time this demented fucker screamed stuff like this. He did similar shit around the time Gina Carrano got purged by Disney. Got away with it back then despite being more fucked up than even the harshest interpretation of her solely due to playing troon defender.
Worse, the rumor was that Pescal was the driving force behind Carrano getting fired, ostensibly because he felt her presence on set made everybody unsafe. Bear in mind that he was barely on set for filming, he primarily just voices the character. By all accounts Carrano was favourably regarded by the other people working on the show.
Also worth noting that he's supposedly gay, yet hasn't come out publicly assumedly because it'd hurt his career.
